yeah pretty much the whole rear suspension and diff. I didn't realize that the older bmw's were set up like that in the rear. the rabbit has a rear trailing arm torsion beam kind of like yours. if I could modify the bmw setup a little to fit my rabbit it would be easier to make it awd. I didn't want to tear into the floor of the rabbit to make it awd so I was gonna leave it fwd, but with this it opens up new possibilities. I already swapped in a vr6 so I would only have to buy the transmission and bmw parts.
it has to be a sort of torsion beam setup like yours and I"m not familiar with volvo at all.. I'm pretty sure whats gonna happen is I will cut it off probably 3 inches or so in front of the hub and then build a new torsion beam the width of my rabbit. weld in mounts for the diff and move the gas tank to the back. then I'll work out something for the suspension.
I went back and looked at the pictures on the front page, I guess I was blind the first time I looked but everything I was wondering about was answered. off to go find a e28 518/535 rear end.
