  • my 89 lx sedan.

well this is my 1989 honda civic lx sedan. it's my daliy and ive had it for about a year now. it was a stock florida car with no rust and about 170,000 miles on the clock. i had little plans for the car, just wheels and lowering it.....but that all changed.

before i bought the car i grabbed at set of 3 piece ARE inc. wheels. (16x7et30),a single edm rear fog light, jdm ef8 sidemarkers, a volvo lip(really dont know what kind of volvo it came off of ....but i ***** it...), and a sekio bubble flower knob i got from super autobachs. then i put the stuff on the car and took it to a local honda day at atco,nj.......and let people write all over it.

watching crowds of people writing on the car that day was fun.....but taking it off was not. the 16's stayed on the car for a few weeks but after bending a barrel i wanted to get rid of them. and 16's were not letting me get any lower. soo i traded them for a set of sportmaxxes 15x8et0 on huge 195/50/15's. i think i fitted them somewhat ok. but i had some rake that i never could fix because my fenders were getting sucked in by the wheels. rubbing was a bigg issue with these wheels.

the bike was a joke. i went through that faze were i thought rusted hoods and roof racks were cool. i dont think they are anymore.

i wanted to be lower.so i did some research on set ups and found out about the magical 89 accord front strut and wagovan rear struts. i put gc springs on the struts and ran them for alittle while....with stock top hats ,which was a very bad idea.....
i was really ****** the sport maxxes and the damage they did to my fenders so i got rid of them and bought a gold parts lx sedan just for a few interior pieces and the front body panels.

i put it back on oem's and put on a nos hop ef2 sedan front lip.

after a while of thinking. i know what i wanted to make my sedan look like. ive always like how bosozoku cars looked. and how crazy some of the vip guys are getting with there stance/wheel/tire setups.....so i want to introduce so of that style to my sedan with alittle twist.

so my first atempted at it was with a set of are inc mesh wheels.(15x7.5et11) on 2 piece 4x100/5x120 adapters. the rear camber arm was shortened by 2 inches and i used a skunk2 fuca maxxed out with only 2 bolts.

i liked how it looked but i wanted a wheel setup with out converion spacers + more wheel with and offset and i really didnt want to run 165/45"s due to avalibility of the tire. so i got rid of them too.

right now the car is sitting on old school AR wheels at a 1 inch jacking point hight.

and thats how it looks right now. the new wheel setup will be jline vip l2's (front:15x10et-2 rear: 15x10et-12) the specs do seem alittle insane but its what will acheave my stance. springs are also going to be looked into. i want the car to sit at 1 inch or somewhat close to it with the 15's. so to be at that hight im going to have to get a very high spring rate on the new springs and might remod the top hats for more travel and also shave the froks. the suspension arms i will be using will be the one's i have already modded and will be remodded if needed.

i am also getting the "parts car" back to reskin the roof for no sunroof and repair the kickpanels on the car.

one major thing i am doing to the car is a rhd conversion. since ef2 sedan parts are very hard to get here stateside i am using one of a ef9 hatch, which means i will have to flip the stock dsah harness and the front of the body harness. the subframe will also have to be moddifided to fit a d15 rear mount, the clip comes in around mid december.

    other plans:
    88-89 zc headlights/cornerlights
    88-89 zc tallights
    wagovan side skirts
    hockey puck engine mounts
    power coated suspension parts
    shaved/tucked bay
    ect.....lol

just stay tuned new parts coming soon.....

Ive seen some pics on HT and a couple other forums..

Im glad you posted this up here because I think you are going to pull it off perfectly once you have the correct size wheels... Although Im not feeling it yet, I know I will.

                Look forward to future updates

Hey, I'd really like to know about the 89 accord/wagovan strut setup. Are you using OEM versions of both? What kind of length/valving difference do they have?

sure!! no problem. for the front i am using a 89 accord front strut. its' about an inch 1/4 shorter than the stock civic units. i am using oem relacments. but bilstein, kyb and tokico make aftermarket units. for the rears i am using stock replacment wagovan's. they are the same length as any other civic strut. the main diffrence is in the spring seat. it's about an inch 1/2 lower than a normal civic strut. there are no aftermarket wagovan struts that i know of. valving will be about the same as stock for the setup unless you get a set of aftermarket 89 accord struts. do not use the setup unless you have extended tophats and a good set of springs....you will regret it....
