  • DD Golf mk3 Variant

So, I wasn't gonna make a build thread about this just yet. I was gonna do it after I get my new wheels this coming saturday..
Since I'm bored, and it's snowing sideways outside, I decided to go ahead and post a little story up on my daily driven POS VW.

    It's a 55kW 1.8l Volkswagen Golf CL Variant. Slow and not-so-low..
During summer this car sits roughly 6cm off the ground on some 7,5x16" Keskin KT5's.
GTi seats inside give a nicer ride than the stock seats.
I have some big plans for the 2011 season; new wheels (bigger and wider), moar low, darker lights head and tail, paint the hood and grille and rip them emblems off!

Bought this thing in August '10, after my not-so-trusty Mitsubishi Galant 4x4 decided to have a meltdown in the electrics.. (Still regret getting rid of the car!)

When I got the Golf, I called a guy from another forum I frequent (NoPokemonShit) and bought his rims. I had to, the rims that came on the car were wobbly, ugly and too big.
So, I slapped on the Keskin KT5's I had bought and the car looked like this.

I was not satisfied. Luckily, the car already sat on some TA-Technix coilovers, so I bought me a new grille, a hood bra and lowered it carefully.

Rolled like that for a bit.. Then just decided that the Golf front has to go, I did not like it one bit. Stole the front off of my younger brother's Vento.

Now the car sat like that for a good while, lowered it a bit more (but the shitty coils wouldn't get me low enough).

    Random pics from our roadtrip:

Some snaps from the first official Lohja (the city I live in) NoPokemonShit-meet:

Winter just attacked us here in the southern parts of Finland, so I had to raise the car and put butt-ugly rims on it.. Was gonna go outside and snap a few shots, but no thanks.. There's a storm out there.

I love Mk3 Variants. Esp. with the Vento front end.

      Yours got lots of potential.

      What I would do:

Lower it. Way more. If you want to stay on the budget side, suspension wise check out some Lowtec coils. A friend runs those in his Mk3 and they go insanely low and still drive very good for around 400€.

And lose those Keskin wheels. They don't suit your Mk3 at all and Keskins are also retarded replica fake-splits. Can you tell I have a big **** on for these wheels?

I suppose you will be delighted when I tell you that I'm ditching those for some sweet, non-fake, split wheels which are 8x17" atm. Gonna need some adapters, though.. But the final ET should be around +10 with adapters etc.
I'll post pics when I get them, I'm trading my s13 for them.. Most likely going to happen next weekend.

As for moar lows, I can probably make those coils go pretty low with some springchopping, but I might just ditch the springs.

Ugh. Guess I'll update this without pictures.
So, no new wheels! I guess I still have to get rid of the Keskins, and shove my Borbet Type A's under this one for the 2011 season.

What else? Well, I ripped the lip last night. Tried to drive home from a friend's garage, snow had been piling up all evening on the road. Rammed the Golf right into a pile of that lovely white shit. That impact tore the lip right off, and cracked my bumber.
Guess I have to raise it even more..

I'll put some pictures up, my friend took some. Don't know how they turned out though, it was midnight, dark and colder than a welldiggers ass.

Meh, I've got TA-technix. They're good enough and cost like 300€.
Choppity chop a couple of coils and it should look decent.

So, being unemployed and broke officially sucks.
Sold the Keskin's, but also had to sell my Type A's..
Now I have some Type A replicas. 16x7,5" ET30. Blargh. They need paint. I just have no idea what color to go with.
Suggestions anyone? Been thinking of beige, khaki and lightblue. Something that would get noticed. Two-tone is also cool, but I don't want polished lips.

We planned some stuff for next season! The trunk will be covered with plaid cloth. I love plaid.
Some other junk in the interior will get plaideded, too.
Did some suspension work on a friends mk3 Variant, and I gotta say these things just won't go low, but they'll go low enough to achieve a certain state of flushness! So moar low WILL be forced upon this thang.

Wrong. With the right mods the Mk3 Vari can go insane low.

He's on 17s and modified FK coils with pressed springs, IIRC.

Sure, but I'm talking about the coils we both have on our cars. Guess I should've been a bit more specific..
Don't worry though, it will go low enough. You're just going to have to believe it.

(That car is totally dope btw. )

Found a pic of my Beetle, not stanced, just restored.

And a random shot of the Golf:
