  • Should really update this. There will be a full update on the Static+ kit in the upcoming issue of PBMW, but in the meantime I've been busy.

For starters, I've stripped the interior right back. I'm not really sure what possessed me to do it, but I'm using it as an excuse to make sure it all goes back 100% perfectly - new clips wherever needed and making sure everything is complete and mint.

I found some cool old bits while taking it apart:

    Dewipered the rear.

Fitted a brand new air con belt.

Replaced the rear shocks - the old ones had a slight rattle

    Gave it a service

Fitted an airbag boss, so I now have a horn.

Got the missus to do some stitching, in yellow to match my brakes

Picked up a set of mint headlights to keep as spares

Someone reversed into the rear quarter, so that had to be repaired and while it was there I had the bonnet smoothed and painted, as well as having all my brand new arch liners, bumper supports and M3 splitter fitted.

    Put engines in Peugeots

    And finally, drunk some beer.

Sorry for all the IG pics. There may also be some more changes soon.

            • Ah, bummer. You sure? I'm only 21, it's really not too bad.

              • Yeah, I think so. I got a quote for a 2.5tds(which is what I'm really after) and it was £900. So I'll need to wait until I'm 20 and see if it goes down a bit haha

                • Someone is going to get a nice well cared BMW with interesting history.
While I'm installing BC and Cruise control into my Compact my brother borrowed his touring to me. Been driving it now three days and really starting to like and understand these long roofs every day more and more. Would not mind someday one in my garage.

I think I paid about £1700 when I was 19, £1360 when I was 20 and now it's a fair bit less than a grand. Not bad I don't think, and that's with 20k a year and all mods declared etc though it is only TPFT.

Thank you - won't be up for sale until it's truly finished in my mind, but that won't be too long. Just need to get a clutch and flywheel from UUC to fit along with a new gearbox, then fit my second bucket seat and sort out a few maintenance bits and its complete. If I fit new wheels they'll only be pretty temporary while I refurb the Rotas.

The Tourings really are fun, they handle just like a far smaller car and look much cooler IMO. And everyone expects them to be slow, which I find funny.

People just are not used to see a family wagon driven like it could be.
More reason to buy one because it probably have been driven sensibly and are mechanically better condition than other body models?? And your are right they look cool.

                        • No real update - the old bus crossed 140k miles lastnight. A little depressing as that means I've done 56k miles in my 2.5 years of ownership, but on the plus side that's been with barely any mechanical issues other than the expected wear and tear. So go BMW - just shows if you look after it properly it pays off.

I've also been busy helping Andy from the BMWE forum with some arch rolling and fitting these on his E36 Touring.

If anyone else needs the loan of an arch roller with or without my time just PM me.

Finally, was flicking through a few old mags and found this - it made me sad. I want the Contours back!
