  • Tuck&Poke's build thread

Posted this on simply clean, but i figured I'd put it here too.

Alright, so I didn't document most of the work done until now since its been over such a long period of time, and when I first got this car I wasn't to enthused about it. But, it ended up growing on me and I started getting more "serious" with the mods. I had to dig back into my myspace page (holy fuck do you even remember that shit?) for most of these pics.

No stock pictures, but... it was stock so it looks like every other Passat in the world. Lucky for me I bought an essentially base model (that's sarcasm, this shit is basically a radio on wheels). Anyway this is what you get when VW hands you the keys in all its monster truck steelie glory.

Didn't touch the car for a few years, then randomly surfing eBay I came across a deal on a set of wheels that I couldn't pass up. And this is when I fell into this bottomless, useless pit that is modifying cars.

Carlsson 3/6, 18x8.5 et 35 fronts and 18x10 et 14 rears. Came with big ass tires. Being the noob that I was I mounted them on the car as is.

Monster trucking that bitch with 265 rears :banghead: After a few months I bought some coilovers. No pics but I splurged on KW V2's and some smaller tires, 235/40's and 215/40's. Fought with the suspension for a few hours until I finally got it installed and went through a mission to get someone to mount stretched tires for me, and it ended up looking like this.

OMG wheel gap! I thought that was crazy stretch too : Dropped it some more after these photos and took it to a meet. This is the best pic I ever got on these wheels, which is a terrible photograph.

The stance was awful, especially by todays standards, as you can see in this pic.

The day after i took that pic, disaster struck in the form of our notoriously terrible Miami drivers.

Wheels were destroyed, so I sold them. While it was at the shop i got a a free manual transmission out of a 99' Audi A4, so I said fuck it, lets convert this bitch to stick. No progress shots as I was way too green to attempt this kind of install so I had a shop do it.

It hasn't blow up yet so I guess they did a decent job.

Sent it off to a body shop and got it back, they did a horrific job, fixed some shit but its still not perfect which is why i want a respray in the near future. Rockin steelies yo! Oh yea and since the headlight needed replacing I went ahead and upgraded to OEM euro HID's with leveling motors. Thank you State Farm! Also got a Forge sidemount intercooler.

Bought this because I'm super fuckin cool and in the scene yo!, but I got sidetracked and never installed it. More on that later.

Got bored with it while I waited to save up for new wheels and decided to max out the coilovers which resulted in...

    Popped the pan.

Ok so back to where we left off... oh yea, the pan

Fresh pan on it, also managed to break one of the motor mounts, had all that garbage replaced. Then I found these for sale on the vortex and I HAD to pick them up.

17x9.5 et 55 front and 17x11 et 36 rears. Needed to redrill the rears, and the front offset was too high, so instead of redrilling and running a spacer I made 25mm adapters for the fronts.

    Test fit

You may also notice caster is off in that last picture, i had to purchase a new lower control arm since it got bent in the accident to fix that.

Then i bought and mounted the tires, first time I used a cheetah. 215/45 fronts and 235/40 rears.

Now these didnt clear the twist beam axle on the inside, so i had to cut out a notch to clear them since i refused to run a bigger spacer in the rear. And I also had to do this.

The south florida fender rolling god himself.

Ready to mount, pic after i finished that night, i was so pumped lol.

Bought a JOM badgeless grill and the OEM base bars.

    Better pics

I was never truly happy with the fitment of the RS's, and I just fell out of love with them, so I didn't want to spend any money on them, and I sold them. Back on the grind in search of new wheels. I didn't want to do the whole refinish thing. I wanted new wheels that I could just open the box, mount the tires and put them on, no adapters, no spacers, no wobble. I had heard of Kranson Forged for a few years and I loved their Klassics design. So I placed the order, shelled out the loot (which was painful) and waited.... and waited.... and waited....

I got bored so i started collecting parts.

OEM Votex rear skirt with optional diffuser.

OEM Votex side skirts. The kit is discontinued, these were the last pieces left new (literally), after I pay for school I'm buying the front skirt.

Integrated Engineering block-off plate to remove EGR.

    spare intake manifold

    2.5in downpipe

finally got a shift knob and boot

I was going for the wood look, so wood ashtray cover.

Votex smoked repeaters, waste of fuckin money.

Leather door cards. Soft touch coating was peeling on the plastics so i changed my mind yet again and started painting trim gloss black.

euro switch w/ front and rear fog. I'm missing a few things here and there but its all bullshit. Stiiiiill waiting for wheels

    Then, bam

Oil pan #2 destroyed. Ran over a folding table on the highway. Yes i was paying attention, no i wasnt tailgating, it flew off the back of a catering truck and i had no where to go because I was in a pack of cars. Get it on the lift and discover that this is probably the biggest hole in an oilpan I have ever seen

also managed to break another motor mount, so I bought some RS4 motor mounts and transmission mounts, no pics of install.

Got that shit all straightened out, and got a call that my centers were in from the machine shop. TEST FIT TIME!

Threw the barrels on and realized that this fuckin guys measurements were off by half an inch. Normally i would be pissed, but it just meant that i would be able to go with bigger lips, never a bad thing IMO. (edit: just wanted to clarify this, i gave him the widths and offsets i wanted, he then figured out pad height and barrel size. My offsets were perfect, his calculations were wrong.)

3.5in front and a 4in rear. Still haven't decided on color at this point.

Engine bay tuck/delete begins. Removed the EGR tubing and valve, removed and unplugged the SAI pump (since I have no cat anyway) and any hoses associated with that. I'll take a picture of the pile of shit I was left with later. Before...

      After....

Some of you might be saying "i dont see the difference" well fuck you, that shit took me a while. Exhaust smells like a boat now too.

Then I pick my color, drop it off at the shop, and Carlos calls me to tell me the centers are painted, so naturally i went to go check it out.

I told the painter to paint the center caps, which he wasn't happy about.

      Assembled

Final specs are 18x10 +16 and the rear is a 10.5 +21. Tires are 215/40 front and 225/40 rear. No pics of mounting the tires because I was so fucking frustrated with them that i didn't give a shit to take pictures. 215/40's do not like to stretch that much. But here is a shot of the aftermath of 110 PSI in a cheetah. and 60+ psi of air pressure for a few minutes till the bead seated.

Got the car ready just in time for the inaugural State of Stance meet/show.

      Famous shots, thanks Raymond.

Got a little package from overseas. This is the reason why I never installed the nardi....

2010 VW Sirocco steering wheel. Aside from the coils, my favorite purchase for this car. Fuck the nardi, this shit is way better.

Installed the steering wheel, and fell in love all over again.

      Remember that spare intake manifold?

Took me forever, casting was really rough. In order to install the manifold, quite a bit of shit needs to be disconnected and moved aside, so i took the time to do my vac line and check valve delete. Also made a tube down to the transmission to vent crank case pressure. I managed to blow the valve cover gasket from not doing so.

This is around the time I wanted to shoot myself in the face for attempting this. Finished the following afternoon.

      Got this in the mail...

AGN smooth valve cover. This is getting the polished treatment too.

Also tracked down some net optic trim, which when sanded down looks like aluminum. Matches the steering wheel better, but its also hard to find states side, common in the UK but they're rhd so door trims wont fit.

I'll get more eventually as I find it.

that's great to see the construction of this car, which is one of the most beautiful Passat b5.5 (not sure of the gen as we do not call them like that in Europe)

i never notice that it was yours rocking those insane RS's!

A lot of details, i love!
