Neeko is a mechanical engineer by trade, so he can speak with some authority.. Kielan on the other hand

Well jeez thanks Ben toss me under the bus haha. No my uncle is a mechanical engineer by trade and we share a passion for cars. He has taught me a lot in regards to how aero works and such.
As far as the f1 argument goes yes I know it's designed as an airfoil. I just used it as an extreme example. That is the case with nearly any race car that is designed with maximum possible speed for it's application as possible. The point is still there though the fact of the matter is you can't just have a low CoD and be ok. Because you will get lift in the front. Cars are designed to break these speeds and unless there is a super car kit for your passat and you find a way to get the power, the perfect tune, a new transmission, the right suspension, ride height, weight, etc you are not going to be able to do this. Unless you strap a jet engine on the back of there.- Kielan (Key-lin)

i think you should stop worrying about top speed and just focus on power. Its essentially two vr's with two cylinders lobbed off. The heads are probably very similar. There are plenty of vr's over 600hp, theres even quite a few 3.6L's close the the 1000hp range. Your biggest issue is going to be space, tuning, and that shitty automatic. I'd ditch that for the 6spd which is MUCH more robust, and will transfer more power. Good luck, that motor essentially has no aftermarket support. I hope you do it though, I've been dying for someone to make some power out of one.

Well shit, if it gonna be this kinda party:
It all depends on how much time and effort your thinking about putting into the aero. If you're going to use the approach of making the car an airfoil then you need to do some work on defining the chord of the air foil and the cambers, not to mention reducing the cars cross-section.
And depending on your angle of attack you can create down force with an air foil "upright" or flipped over. So a "flat bottom" car really isn't a requirement. Planes fly upside down by changing the angle of attack, the airfoil is constant. You remember that Porsche Lemans car flipping? That wasn't a failure of the airfoil, the car changed it's angle of attack on the "wind" and the physics became lift instead of downforce.
I'd be more concerned with using an AWD car because of the rotational drag. Why not go out to the salt flats and watch them run? Probably a great deal to learn from those guys, not to mention they have a 200mph club.Last edited by TheNeek; 09-10-2010, 03:58 PM.

You do know that the 150mph your speedo reads is probally closer to 130mph or less... If you are talking about a gps verified 200mph... not going to happen this decade.. can you do it, sure but damn man pick a different platform. You can get an evo to go 200mph a whole lot easier and for half the price (like $50k cash without labor vs the like $100k plus you would have to spend to get this fucker to 200)
