Rat rods are awesome, but the term is so wrongly used that I despise it now.

If its flat black its instantly a rat rod which is sad because a real.rat rod is built using various bits and pieces of other vehicles... doesn't have shit to do with the paint job

You both are correct. Although i do think the paint has something to do with the image. But the term "rat rod" gets mis-used very often

I agree with all that for the most part.

The last few cars i've put together I call "ratty" but are by no means rat rods.

I agree with that^ my opinion on a "rat" is old school American muscle, although you can achieve that look with a non-domestic car or truck I don't think its a REAL rat rod. Hand made rust on a hood is not ratty.

My vision of a rat rod is a 60's c10 with late model silverado drivetrain, and a well kept patina. Or something to that nature.

But that's just my opinion of course.
