Yeah i asked around and peopel have said if you cant afford the 1.2 (1k odd) get the 1.4 and dont get the 1.8!

This. Feels like strapping an empty yoghurt container to your cam, but results are good.

Keeps me from wanting one, tho. I'll gladly miss the autofocus and instead use some vintage 50mm that's made out of metal instead...

A nifty fifty is amazing. Find me any new lens for £70 that is anywhere near as crisp in comparison.

I think that once you go to a metal lens, some element of comfort comes from the build.

I feel uncomfortable when my girlfriend's 18-55 kit takes a knock here and there.
