I still live with my parents but I'm dying to get my own place... but looking at places to rent in my area, it's insane - for the same amount I'd pay as rent for a small-ish 2room flat, I could also buy & pay off a small-ish house... Would just need a lump of money for an initial downpayment. I've set it as my goal to own a nice house before I'm thirty.

Some renting prices are crazy.
I have a few guys at work who rent together at £450 each
Then I have a mate who's just got a house with his misses and they're paying £750 between them on a mortgage.

I'd rather put money to my own house then pay someone for a place then at the end have nothing from it.
