  • Serious, Serious Stance Issues...

Whats up. Names Damein, I bought my e36 last winter and being more performance orientated I've already swapped the 318is Chaise with a full M3 drive terrain + verious Mods...

    BUT while I like to go Fast I also like to Look Good while I do it! I haven't touched the Fitment issues on this car at all yet so it pretty horrible and I wouldn't mind some pointers on how to get it looking good and sitting right but still making viable from a Performance stand point. These are the current specs and measurements on the wheels, tires, and Suspension;

    Suspension:
It sits on H&R Sports with Bilstein Shocks

    Wheels & Tires:
    Fronts- 16"x7" BBS RS005s (7Jx16h2 et11)- 205/50 R16
    Rears- 16"x8.5" BBS RS211 (8Jx16h2 et11)- 205/45 R16

Needs new tires Desperately but I don't want to spend the money just yet because I'll be needing new wheels soon hopefully...

(For the Record...I was not the one who "rolled" these quarters)

Anyways, like I said I'll be needing new wheels soon because the calipers from my M3 break convention wont clear 16"s so I'm thinking about going for some 17" BBS RC090's (Style 5's)...

They would be 17"x8" et20 and I think they fill the wheel well much better and are the perfect offset and width to fit nicely under the fenders. What do you guys think?

Will they sit nice but still offer functionality from a performance aspect?

Keeping performance in mind what kind/size tires should I run? I don't want them stretched too much the more tread the better IMHO but I still want it to fit nice and look good!

Thanks for the help and advice and its nice to meet you all!

    -Damein

Welcome! Style 5s are the most common run wheel on a stanced e36. They are fine. Most run 205/40s. With that roll in the rear, you'd be fine with a 215 or even maybe a 225 in the rear and/or spacers. Since you want a little performance, I'd run 215s all around with spacers in the rear.

Yeah I know the Style 5's are pretty common but the only other thing that comes close to the look would be 17" BBS RS's and I'm quite sure based off the prices that they are made out of Pure Gold... lol Is there any other maybe less common options that would fit nice and achieve the same look?

I think I'll try to go with at least 225's and RE-roll my rears the RIGHT WAY since they are already toast!!

BTW,Thanks all for the Warm Welcome!

So I've decided that Style 5's aren't the way I want to go instead I'm looking to get a set of 17" BBS RS's

The only sizes they make them in BMW fitment as far as I know is:

              BBS RS197 17" 9.5J 5x120 ET13
              BBS RS198 17" 8.5J 5x120 ET13
              BBS RS212 17" 8.5J 5x120 ET13
              BBS RS302 17" 8J 5x120 ET40

I "Stole" and modified this diagram from Google to help me work out the measurements and visualize the differences.

So I want the widest wheel possible that will take full advantage of my wheel well but will also sit as close to flush as possible with the fenders with out rubbing even if that means rolling them.

Witch width/offset combo do you recommend? Also what size tire?

My thoughts are I can run the widest tire on the 9.5" but with such a low offset it will poke out like none other and not take advantage of the space in my wheel well while if I go with the 8" it will sit like it should but not sit flush and wont take as wide of a tire because it might rub the strut tower...

...a 9.5" et26 would probably be perfect because that would put about the same amount of barrel on the inside of the wheel as stock applications do(~5.77") so its sure not to rub; but that's not an option

I think I'm leaning more towards the RS302 and solve the width issue with aftermarket lips.

What are your thoughts or suggestions?
