Hi all, I've been lurking here for a while now. I love the forum, love the cars, love the scene
I live in Warsaw, Poland, but I usually spend the winter in the US in Oregon (thats where
I was born.)
I have this old Jag sitting in my yard, its my baby and I have big plans for it (I have an Eaton
m90 blower sitting on my desk as a type,) but somehow money is always an object, and
being a broke college kid isn't helping.
Here is the car that I bought as my daily, its an old Polish "Polonez."
For those who don't
know, let me explain.
For a long time back in the communist days it was one of the few forms of transportation
the average Polish guy could buy, and It was such pile of shit from the factory that given
the choice most people wouldn't be caught dead in one. However, this is the very first
version they every made it's getting pretty rare, so by now when people see it they get all
nostalgic, start waving and laughing cause it reminds them of the good old days.
Mine has a set of headers, a different cam and carb, a 5-speed, stiffer shocks all around,
stiffer springs from the "cargo" version chopped by 2 coils in front, the rear rims are
original items that were widened by 3-4 cm, and the front ones come from a Renault. The
previous owner was an epic welder, and he made a new exhaust out of stainless with a
couple of glasspacks. The welds are so smooth you can hardly tell they're there, and it
makes an awesome crackling noise when you take your foot off the gas (my neighbors
just don't get it though.) The whole thing weighs just 2400 pounds
The best part though, is that parts are still widely available, and there isn't a single one
that you can't buy new for under $20. Nothing like cheap RWD action.
Enjoy
