yeah dude ef wagons are sick. buddy of mine used to own one never stanced it out though lol. he's got a ek hatch now though. yeah being young your gonna want something reliable forsure and if you don't buy a ridiculous heap, reliability shouldn't be a issue. but yeah it's funny cause a kid in my class owns a cummins which I have nothing against and I asked him how much boost pressure or psi can those handle stock and he didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about. probably doesn't even know what a compressor map is,chra, wastegate, bov, fmic, or any other related stuff looks like. all they wear is camo .

yeah man, I spend hours reading about cars and looking at them. I'm torn in between mechanical engineering and being and auto tech. even though both have their big pros and big cons. but if you got money like that, long as you save and don't go the cheapest route, you can have a decent car. all in all, there is a lot to consider man. that's what will determine how your car comes out. but careful out there in philly, cause people that see nice cars take them haha same here in the Michigan though.

also man Honda wise, I personally think older stuff like the integras and civic hatches, crx, wagovans have more rigidity and are a bit easier(and cheaper) to work on for the inexperienced. also what are you looking for specifically? I can just name off cars but it may not have any relevance to what you might want year wise, model and manufacturer wise.

spiel time lol. when I was your age not long ago haha before I owned a motorized vehicle, I was dead set on something rwd. drifting, drifting, drifting, that was it. I wasn't getting a front wheel drive. Honda's were gay to me. almost bought e30's numerous times that were half put together and I don't even a garage. then I wanted s13's and 14's then cressidas, then 200sx's(s12) then mk3 supra's,miatas,e36's,volvo 240's and 242's,rx7 fb and fc3s ect,ect and the list goes on. well i have a Honda now haha that I love. I tell you don't be dead set(not that you are) on any specific cars. why because like me, you probably aren't very familiar with them. you want something easy to work on and can get you where you gotta go reliably if you dd it. I remember I couldn't drive my car because I put a new thermostat in and the gasket didn't seat right and I didn't torque it to spec. I also punctured the 20 year old lower rad hose and when I started it, my thermostat housing split apart and antifreeze everywhere. that's usually the problem with popular cars in the scene. is when you buy them and do preliminary maintenance and things go wrong(usually due to being new to cars) thats where creativity comes in lol. but don't over think it man. when you love cars they will come(some longer than others) and go. just get familiar with how cars work and how suspension geometry comes into play when stancing cars lol and try to be mechanically inclined which I'm sure you are otherwise you won't make it too far unless you have everyone do work for you. all I do is read about cars and that alone will make you better than you were the day before when it comes to understanding the fundamentals. I was in the same spot a year ago. bottom line is if you're not committed and are second guessing your abilities, don't bite off more than you can chew. I wish the best for you man.

You should think about getting into some classics, I did and I couldn't be happier. Also their styling is so cool compared to the cars of today.

Good choice indeed! These Mk2 models are cool and real simple for starters. Also parts will not be very expensive.
                      Good luck

Those are really cool cars. Jetta's when taken car of will out live the owner (especially the diesels). Don't be too dead set on any certain car. A great car might fall in your lap and it would be foolish to pass it by just cause it is not a Jetta.

LS400, Cressida, W126, W124, W201, Volvo 240, Crown Vic/Grand Marq, or anything else 4door with good safety ratings. Gotta save on insurance. Shit is killer for new drivers.

I know in my case my first had to be auto because other people in the house may need to drive it. Having a manual car for a first time with someone who is just learning how to drive AND how to use a manual can sometimes be too much to think about. Having too many things going on can really screw with shifting. I think it's just a safety precaution. A lot of people new to Manuals can get jumpy if someone is teaching them, or they get scared of their own car.

For example, I was teaching my little cousin to drive one, and he went to pull it out of the driveway but couldn't get the stick to stay in first, the car jumped forward and engines rev'd high. All while this was happening his dad and my dad were yelling to tell him to disengage.

He just kind of lost it, he was nervous, scared, and got sporadic from yelling and the original jump, car took off across the street. Luckily he was able to stall out before hitting a neighbor's garage.

My .02 learn on an Auto if you've never driven stick, when you're comfortable with speeds and understand shifting, start learning.

If you want something cheap, reliable, manual, and good on gas you can never go wrong with any 90s Civic. But like everyone else here is saying build a car that makes you happy. dont worry about all the scene fags ******. (theres a reason they're called scene fags)
