Do what I do, buy it and then tell them haha. I just bought my BMW that way because no parent wants a kid with three cars.

Personally stick with a cheaper car to run. Foresters or legacys with good headgaskets are awesome platforms now a days. LS400s tend to be cheap and are stupid reliable. Find a scene you want to go with. I love slow four door sedans and thats why I got my Passat and 528e. But make sure it is for you and not to be internet famous.

Most people will agree that driving a manual makes you a more attentive driver. It's hard to text, fire a semi-automatic out the window, and duct tape the mouth of your screaming passenger if both hands are already busy steering and shifting.

lol thanks guys, so i actually went back to my dads house today and asked if he was still 100% certain about me not getting manual. he responded "yes" and laughed. after a little convincing and some lexuring, he said it didnt really matter. he said its more didficult to drive a stick but ill pay more attention to my driving and not texting or other stuff. im super excited because im not even gonna look for an automatic haha. but now you guys know i can drive a stick, any more suggestions? easy cars to learn on? good on gas? cheap?n

So don't think anyone said this yet but have you considered a Volvo. Yes I know, sounds lame but get a 80's early 90's rear wheel drive models 240 740, 940. A lot of fun can be had with them and they are dead reliable, cheap, and easy to work on. Not to mention they are tanks. Plus you can make them pretty cool. Otherwise for ease and reliability there is certainly a lot to be said for the Subarus mentioned above or the miata if you do not mind the size. My family has one as a spare car and that thing always runs like a champ with only minimal maintenance. But either way cheers and just build something that makes you happy and have fun. When I was in high school (graduated in 07) I drove a 67 chevy pickup in black primer complete with rust through the bed. Most people saw a sh***y old truck but damn I loved that thing. Just enjoy the ride. Plus it's never too early to start driving a stick, it is a lost art for the most part these days.

Great to hear your dad came around. My suggestion is still a Miata, unless you need more space. They're cheap, reliable, fun, inexpensive to repair and mod, great on gas, and you can make it totally stance-tastic. And with only room for one passenger, you can sell the idea to your parents as not being the rolling smarty98 party machine.

Hey man, I too like all of us was once in your position. except it wasn't long ago.(I'm 17) if you're parents wont let you drive a manual, there not going to let you lower your car to impractical heights that negate the ability to daily drive a car with reliability(cracking oil pans if you don't got a skid plate) especially if they buy your car. my parents didn't and I told them it was GOING to be a manual and it is.I didn't know how to drive it at first but I knew the principals(forza 4 and youtube lol) I wanted to learn. learn the basics of it if you don't have a clue. Honda's are great entry level cars. easy to work on, cheap, reliable, blah,blah. I have a old 92 integra bought for 900 bucks and man do I love it. wanted a 240sx and e30 like every other drift nut, but somehow ended up with this. I ain't even mad:.cool
yeah I wish my parents would let me get some expensive car like a wrx or or impreza(even though I prefer the older ones like 99's and what not) that wasn't even an option for me man. but if they help you, respect them if they're are paying for it. because if it was my future son pulling off the lot in a 2015 wrx with me knowing the aftermath(slammage) I wouldn't let him. if he had money to do it rights and he pay for the car, by all means slam it son. just don't be a scene fag worrying about what other scene fags think homie. gotta be genuinely interested from da heart

1st gen lexus is looks like a certain car i find visually appealing just so you guys know what type of car i like, usually the front assembly of a car is the give away for me. subaru's certain hondas, miatas look great but to be honest guys, we went to the dealership the other day to look at this vw jetta and there was this beautiful miata and i said woah dad thats a nice miata huh?, he looked at me and said "are you gay". i knew he was just kidding but he did mention to me that they are considered a girl car to him. no i could really care less what he has to say but i dissapoint him too much as it is. not to give you guys my life story but he wishes i had as much as an intrest for hunting as he does, i really dont like hunting at all but ive given him my effort to appreciate the time we spend when we do hunt together. but anyways what im trying to say is i feel like the odd ball of the family because my whole family hunts and it its more traditional than anything else. as screwed up as it sounds, he really makes me feel like sh*t about not wanting to hunt. its a whole fiasco but anyways back to cars, i like the large front end cars like miatas, rx7, rx8. you guys are probably tired of me bumbing this thread for more suggestions but you guys are coming up with some great ideas that i would have never guessed.

look man, me and you have a lot in common but our situations are totally different. your parents took you to a dealership/mines never did. they didn't even come with me to buy my first car. just my bro did. I worked my arse off and helped my dad roof and I worked at little caesars making 6.93 an hour and I'm not one of the people that just throw ebay coilovers on stock struts and call it good. you gotta work for this man. as far as hunting, I'm in a auto tech class and nobody I mean nobody drives a car. all lifted trucks there parents pay insurance on and they all love hunting. I've never touched a gun in my life so it's a bit strange being with them. but you gotta do it man. my dad doesn't care about anything I do to my car at all no one does but I like that. let's me do what I gotta do with nobody in my ear. at the end of the day who really is gonna drive your car? you or your dad? that's all it's going to matter to homie. no one else.

also man don't let your first car be something you absolutely love because it's chances of staying that way are slim until you gain driving experience(especially when learning how to drive stick in a new car. it might not be the best idea because you might stall out in the intersections like I did lol). stick is a different ball game as far as multi tasking. you gotta pay attention and get good foot/hand coordination while keeping your eyes on the road. it's not hard but it's more work in the beginning. but then it becomes clock work(I don't even think about when I should shift) it's so fun though. (me and my two instructors at school are the only ones who have manuals in the lot although my brother can drive too ) as long as your not ripping through gears thinking your BA lol you'll be good enough to suffice on the roads with other cars in a week and a half with dedicated practice

lol very true, i know how you feel about the kids in your auto tech class. i live in a town about an hour away from philidelphia, i also go to a tech school for half the day for welding and fabrication. every day i sit on the bus and listen to these wanna be rednecks blabber about whos truck is nicer. if we are on the bus and they hear a modded car going past them, they immediatley say sh*t like, "wow look at that pos" or "nice racecar **hole". trust me is the most rediculous thing i have ever heard. fortunately i could care less what they have to say about my car whenever that falls in line. but i dont see any struggle to mod my car yet, im only a level 2 junior in my welding class and I already have had many co-op opportunities asking for 15-25 dollars an hour. starting next year i will HAVE to have a car for co-op and im certain i will have enough change to get my car looking somewhat the way i want it to. dont think im going to spend every last penny i have to make my FIRST stanced out. however its a good past time for me and something that really intrests me lately. im a very materialistic person meaning, skateboarding, action sports, idk buying new stuff, but since i quit skateboarding my lifes been pretty dull and im the type of person that NEEDS a full time hobby, something i do 24/7. something that actually excites me and i cant keep my mind off of. now although its very early in my car phase, im starting to think more and more that this could be something i want to do throughout my teen years and hopefully more.
