hey everyone, i'm lucas. wassup from sf!!
i'm new to the forums but ive been a fan of stanceworks for a while. theres a lot of sick creative cars on here, and all the peeps seem really cool as well. i see my car as a creative outlet. i dont want my car to be the "best" or whatever, i just want it to be mechanically sound, cool looking but not over the top, and comfortable enough to be my daily driver. i hope to learn a lot from this forum and to meet some cool folks!
ever since i was little ive been obsessed with cars and motorcycles, especially bimmers. growing up we had a jetta, then a green e34, a blacked out e46 330i, which led to a blacked out 2007 335i with an upgraded cam and other mods, and now we have a blacked out X5 with the stock sport upgrades and super wide tires. my dad is to blame for my obsession lol
this is my e28 "Akula". its a 528e (slowwww, i know) except i got it with 70k miles on it

my girlfriend named it that because it means shark in ukranian. i wanted an e30 for a while until i discovered old 5's! and then i saw chris harris' e28 m5 video and i was like dayuuum
i need one.
ive had it for a year, and i love it. i love the boxy but not too boxyness of it. to me its the perfect balance between sporty and family/casual sedan. even though its got a slow grandpa car engine, it handles super well and its super comfy.
i replaced the bottlecaps with style 5's almost immediately. these are the earlist pics of the car when i first took it to the shop i worked at for a bit. since the car sat for so long it needed some love. we replaced the alternator, battery, distributor cap, took care of some corrosion on the fusebox, replaced some belts, and we replaced the ignition key switch, or whatever its called. then it ran quite smoothly.

typical day at ottowerks!

yupp thats a 3.0cs with an e34 m5 engine. it was pretty drifty on drizzly days at 7am
minus the orange its basically my ultimate dream car
getting to work on my dream cars for free was amazing but unfortunately i needed money for food and stuff, so i couldnt work there forever! so i started working on my car on the street in front of my house. not that bad
replacing my break pads in automechanics class

akula and my homie's '02

took it to a drag/drift event at sonoma raceway

watching all these drift cars for just a couple hours made me strongly consider buying a 240 or something haha

there was also the cleanest m5 ive ever seen

this is where i started changing stuff up. finally put a spoiler on, and some bmw center caps

took her camping

got her detailed. bronzit looks so good when its clean. (which lasts about a day lol.) when my car is dirty it looks horrible though

this is what the interior used to look like. i put some groovy ass fabric on the door panels, put a wooden shifter, and i badly reupholstered my drivers seat. it looked better than when i got it though. stock stereo ftw!

then i painted everything black, aaand then i got actual black interior parts from a 535i

my friend and i totally destroyed the interior of a 535i parts car to get to the carpet, then proceeded to get the ugly ass tan carpet out of my car. went from this

to this

that was a loooong night. i mostly work on my car at night
recovered my stupid seat again with black faux suede

got the carpet and black leather back seat for a hundred bucks. also got to check out some track cars and an e34 m5 while i was there. thanks pete!

plastidipped my steering wheel logo

i recovered the door panels and rear parcel shelf and speakers with grey tweed. kinda inspired by euro e28 interiors

i got bavauto springs but they were too high!! cut my front springs and it had some serious rake. also plastidipped the rims

took the metal bumpers off and left the plastic black trim. cant take credit for the signals behind the grill, but it looks so sick! also dipped the bmw emblems and kidneys

looked kinda silly so i took the front bumper trim all the way off.

using plastidip to create a euro style "bumper"

i think it looks pretty gewd. plastidip is the bees knees
except it totally sucks when you need to peel it off your mesh rims. such a bad idea haha

took me a fricken hour to get the plastidip off the wheels of one side. so i left the other side black for now. kinda weird but whatever. cut the back springs

they look so much better silver

i shaped my exhaust tip with my tiny dremel tool

black?

or silver? lol

the good ol m20

gotta replace this intake bellow hose as well as a fuel supply hose to the intake. theres so much leakage that its even slower than usual

i recently replaced the spark plugs and changed the oil.

now i'm just waiting for my hoses and air filter to come in the mail. i shadowlined the taillights. i think im obsessed with plastidip. also took the rear bumper trim off to refinish it

i found some led's at auto zone and jankily wired em up in my vents

aaaand thats all for now. future plans:
replace the style 5's with some deep dish 5 spokes or paint them like this

replace the slushbox with a 5 speed!
e2i or engine swap (i need to get another car to drive around while this one has no engine in it)
i want to paint it this color. bad pic but its like bronzit mixed with metallic lavender or somethin

put a black spoked nardi wheel to match my shifter
some black and grey recaros to match the interior
but for now im pretty broke. i'll eventually start a build thread when i replace my hoses.
thanks for looking!! and heres a couple pics to end it.
my car next to a non-bimmer of some sort

just kidding i love ferraris too

peace
