  • 2013 Mustang 5.0 on Air

    Hello.

I am Remi, a long standing car dork from Vancouver BC - for many years I have enjoyed all flavors, makes and styles of cars. One of my goals in my time on this earth is to sample every major brand I can. I don't really tend to post much because my cars tend to be not very accepted by the fans of the various brands, because like most people on here I like to do things a little differently. I enjoy Stanceworks because it is one of the few places where every make and model is appreciated, what really seems to matter around here is passion and fun.

This is my first Ford product, my first Domestic and my first Muscle car and I have to say, I went into it with an open mind and Ford seems to have really come a long way since I learned to drive on my parents 1988 Tempo...

    So without more story;

This is my mustang. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

    Here is how she began:

    After the install:

The car is a 2013 Mustang GT Track pack.

Lowered on Airlift performance front and rear kits and running Autopilot v2 management.

Just completed the install a few weeks ago, my first Air setup and so far I'm totally hooked on it. It really covered up the only real character flaw of the stock 5.0 which was a lot of body roll and dive. It has the grip and the balance but it was as dramatic about cornering as a teenage girl is about dating. The kit really transformed the car and somehow rides better than I though possible. I'm still learning the sweet spot for ride heights for comfort or performance, but so far I'm digging Air a hell of a lot more than just for adjustments. It seems that Mustangs on Air are getting fairly popular and I understand why now.

Very nice start. I think some wheels would definitely set it off nicely

I firmly believe that this generation of the mustang is the best they've ever looked since the original fastback. Beautiful car, and like everyone else is suggesting, needs a nice pair of shoes. Loving it!

Thanks for all the Love guys.

Wheels are a definite need, but I'm taking my time and waiting for inspiration. In my eyes mustangs tend to have 1 of 3 types of wheels - really heavy and played out retro styled 'muscle car' wheels, cheap tire store specials or light but quite odd looking (too small) track day wheels and there aren't many manufacturers catering to Mustang fenders so finding something that will fit aggressively while being light and looking good is a bit of a welcome challenge. Thankfully it shares its 5x114.3 bolt pattern with a lot of Japanese cars so the wheels are out there, it's just a matter of finding one that sings to me.

It's been over a year with this car and while I have done a fair bit to it, I haven't updated on here because I still have not been able to decide on the right wheels, and I never intended this to be a build thread. More of a before and after.

I think I will make a proper build thread and update with everything i've done (and will do in the future). After a year and 20,500km (12,000 miles) I am still quite taken with this car. It's got its annoyances, and it still feels like a departure from what I consider my ideal car (small, light, low powered) it is without question the most rewarding car i've owned. It has so much character. My friends refer to it as 'the Hero Car" because this is the type of vehicle you see driven by the main character in bad hollywood road movies. It has menace, presence and it knows what it is.

I'll update this thread with some current pictures, and then start a proper build thread in the future

I've changed the front grille, added US spec GT LED fog lights and some spacers to the factory track pack wheels.

For performance, I'm still on the Air lift performance suspension (15,000km on it) and happy as a clam with it.

I currently have a set of headers and an offroad x-pipe on the way. I plan on keeping the stock mufflers for now because these cars can get obnoxiously loud very easily, and I won't buy new mufflers until I know they're really necessary. The car has been tuned and already has problems with traction on the street even with the P-zero's, so adding every last bit of power is not really on the agenda, at this point it's more about making the car as much of a fun experience as possible. Droning highway cruises are not terribly fun.

It looks much better with the additions you made, but your camber seems to be excessively positive. Is that not adjustable?

                          progress IS a slow process

Yeah can't believe how upright the wheels are, get a little bit of camber in there and you can fit those wheels under the fenders. Looks awesome though
