  • Hey there, project street rod pics inside...

Hey all, my name is Christian and this is my project.
Highly modified would work in the case of my truck. It’s a 1937 Chevrolet 1/2 ton truck, with a 2001 Corvette engine, or LS1 T56 6 speed trans, and 3.46 rear end. The frame was custom made by myself with help from my father over the last two years to suit the full Corvette independent suspension and disk brakes all the way around. The truck is supported by a set of coilovers. The wheels are stock 2001 wheels 18x9.5+56 rear, 17x8.5+56. with 255s on rear so they don’t rub on the already 2inch wider rear fenders. The Corvette trans is under the bed connected to the motor by a torque tube. The torque tube was custom extended 6 and 1/4 inches by a shop in Kentucky. The trans being in the back was the reason I made the bed tilt, so people could see the amount of time and effort that went into the truck.
How does it run? Well, the Corvette’s electronics are all there, slimmed down by myself on cold winter nights. The Security systems are all there, I just wired it in such a way that everything that wants to talk, does.
To summary, it IS a C5 Corvette hiding under the body of a ‘37 Chev. These pics and my driving it around this summer have been 7 years in the making for me, since I was 13 years old.

These were taken with a decent camera. The ones in the last post were off my iPhone haha. That was the last sunny day of the summer/fall here in Washington.

I wish I could find the pics of the bare frame! I did find these though that are of the kustom power steering reservoir and radiator overflow mount that I made a few months ago... Now to polish it over the winter when its ALL apart... Yes it will be painted, and glossy! None of that patina or rat rod stuff here. (I love rat rods and patina, just not on this build) Build thread later on, School is killing my free time.

And the reservoirs tuck nicely into the core support.

Sweet Chevy! Love it and it's pretty awesome that your dad helps you out with it, definitely makes me want to get back to working on my dad's Ford!

VERY NICE! I look forward to your continued progress. Question: does the transmission being so far back help noticably with weight distribution?

                  Thanks!

Classy- Yeah it is awesome that dad helps me, these days most of the work is my own, I think he is letting me do my own thing to it, but he watches continually, and the ideas bounce between us all the time. Especially as I get closer to paint and interior work, I need to nail down my color choices!

R2dmax- I can only assume that the rear mounted trans pulls the CG backwards. The CG is quite a bit different than the stock truck obviously, being that I changed everything. Now it is lowered 9-10 inches from stock. My truck's stock frame that is missing the axles is sitting on the bare (stock) leaf springs, and the new frame is lower than that all built up! I wish I had a set of race scales, but I don't. I'll have it corner balanced when it is all done, so we'll know then!
I can say that approx. 80 pounds (the bed wood) over the back tires makes a HUUUGE difference in the power to pavement equation! The difference between the set up now and running without a bed (lol I only did that once) is insane. It was stupid how easy it would light them up, now it is far more controlled, and I can get in the throttle (somewhat!) in the lower gears.

I will start a build thread soon, but I've been swamped with college and haven't done anything to it...
I did get to take some decent pictures of my daily yesterday... It was sunny yesterday! and today!!! (I'm from Washington, the place where it is overcast and raining ALL the time in the "not summer," so don't judge!)

Thanks man! I love that car! It is so fun to drive through the twisties! The truck isn't is bad, but the seat is FLAT and my butt slides all over it even though I have a tight seatbelt. LOL So now that's on the list for the truck... Bolsters in the seats!

                      Every reply gets a pic!
I wish I had taken more this way and turned the car around but was in a super hurry... Maybe next sunny day... (next July probably):

                          Thanks, I'll try!

I'd make a build now but nothing has changed, still buried in homework... This is the current status.

Would you guys like the build to start as far at the beginning as I can find pics? or start now?

Sick! have you had any problems with the lengthened torque tube? Ive been reading about that and there is not many people that do it.

No issues from the torque tube. The shop that did it used a new piece of Al tube and machined the bellhousings, as well as had a new 3in driveshaft made that was precision balanced... That's all I know about it. It seems as smooth as can be from idle to the limiter, which is pretty sweet considering the shaft turns at engine speed...
