Hey ya'll, my name is Ben, and I'd like to introduce myself as well as share my work in progress. I picked up my 1988 Jaguar XJ6 after it had been driven hard and put away wet, so to speak...
It started out as so many projects do these days, with a craigslist listing, and what luck! Only 15 minutes from my shop, and the seller eager to drive it to me! After conversing for a few days, we managed to find a day to meet up at my shop so that I could pick the car apart. After screwing around for most of the day, I hear what sounds like a drag car coming up the road- I look out and lo-and-behold, a red '88 Jag is pulling through my gates.
To make a long story short, the car had seen better days- the power steering was screaming, the mufflers seemed to be elsewhere at the time, and most of the front bumper must have had a previous engagement. Keeping an open mind, I test drove it, and it had one thing going for it-- it ran puuuurrrrfectly! We eventually settled on a price, after which she informed me that if I didn't buy it, next stop for it would have been Mercer Wrecking-- saved for now...
After clamping the exhaust back together, and taking care of the power steering fluid leak, I had myself quite a car, and for an even better bargain! This left me with a good chunk of change for modifications. Queue the music...
I ended up choosing a wheel that has been making its way in to the VW scene a lot recently- the C4 Salad Shooter wheel, in a 16x8.5 configuration. The centers and slots are black, the rest bare aluminum. For tires, i took advantage of a set of 205/65/16 tires i received with a B4 A4. The rear of my car is lowered on a strut conversion, and the front is currently on stock springs. After a scrub down, the old Jag was already shining. The missing bumper was replaced, the chewed console replaced, and all electrical switched cleaned and replaced! To my amazement, every power option, whether it be the sunroof, or the seats, all work!
After taking ownership of my Salad Shooters, I sent them to be machined correctly to accept the slightly larger XJ6 hub. After about a week of waiting, I got them back on the new tires and mounted them up. What a difference!
Well, I feel like I'm rambling, so I'll just say that this is TBC
looking forward to making connections with you guys!
