  • New w124 around

I'm bad at introductions, and my canvas is blank - so I have no idea what to say here, except that I'm riding high and need to be grounded...if you know what I mean

Bought my 95 E320 almost a year ago now and haven't done much to it except tinting my rear windows (tinting anything ahead of shoulders is illegal in Vancouver, Canada).

I've gone through other message boards where everyone tries to maintain the stock look of their Benz, so I didn't find myself to be a fit.

Thus, I couldn't acquire any knowledge useful to my vision the past year. And then there was Stance Works.

My car is a blank canvas waiting to be painted.

That car is a beauty! You sure you want to start modifying it? There aren't many good original W124 E320's left on the roads these days.

If you really want to do it.. buy some 17" alloys (AMG's are nice), replace your stock springs with H&R ones (part # 29569-1 for your car) as they are more stiffer and that'll give you a 50mm drop up front and 35mm drop on the rears. Perhaps change the spring pads/shims to 1 nibs all round, as by the look of your car you may have 3 nib on the rears and 4 nibs up front. Then you'll get a much better idea as to where you want to go with your car and what look you want to achieve.

From that point on, anything is possible to drop the car further by cutting the springs. I would say though, try buy some Bilstein B8 dampers/shocks all round as they are designed for 40mm+ lowering and the car will still handle pretty good. If they are too expensive, try MB sportline springs for your model. The original ones you have right now are too long/soft and will blow out over time (just saves the hassle down the line).

You could even get the fenders widened for wider rims or have them pulled and rolled. AMG did a fender spacer kit (part # HWA 1248800197 or B66020072) for the front which pushed out the front wheel arches by 1.5", that'll give you some extra clearance for lowering or using wider front wheels.

      Thanks Niks.

I do love the AMG Aero II's. They've proven to be very hard to find though - of course! Also, a lot of 124's sport them, and I'm seeking originality. It'll be hard to find wheels to suit this car.

I absolutely love the original look of the car, but I also believe the car should speak my style. I intend on keeping all original parts as I swap them out.

In purchasing a Benz, I got into it knowing the costs of ownership of such a car. No parts will be too expensive, as I don't want to cheap out on my pride and joy.

Modding civics was a lot cheaper, but there's something about this car that tells me it deserves the best.

I actually have H&R sport springs and Bilstein HD's on my list for lowering the car. But, where would I purchase spring pads from? Are they generic, or Benz specific pads?

Would their costs not be too inflated for a bump pad? I recall reading so somewhere. Of course, seems like it's just stating the obvious.

          P.S: Thanks

Id say go for the Bilstein sport B8 shocks rather than the HD's which are almost replacements of the originals. I had them on mine, and they didnt react too well with spring rates of H&R's. Theres a company in Europe called Cobra who also makes lowering springs for W124's, and theyre spring rates are higher than H&R's. They would be great for really lowered cars as they will reduce body roll, nose dives and so on quite significantly, keeping the wheels from rubbing on the arches. Only prob is you wont have any teeth left as the ride will be harsh and you'll feel everything on the road cracking your balls.

Theres plenty of decent rims out there which will suit the 124. Do a google image search and see the variety and how each wheel would look. You could even swap the rear suspension hubs over from a 1992 R129 500SL with a little work that will give you extra clearance/ET for wider rear wheels. Just make sure it doesnt catch on the inner shock or the inner wheel well.

Try and keep it original as you can though.
