  • New Mercedes Cosworth to This Forum New to Stance

Hey guys, I'm Ben. I'm friends and went to high school with D-Lem and Kamberkid.

They have been talking about SW for a while so I came and lurked for a bit and checked it out.

    I own a 1986 190e 2.3-16 "Cosworth".

The rear is sagging because the rear SLS system is leaking out. And the front is still at stock height. When D-Lem was checking out my car, he said that the front shocks are leaking a bit. So I might as well cut the dead coils up front and bring it down level.

Here are some shots I took when I first got it:

Sorry, their night shots taken with a point and shoot on Facebook so the quality is... really poor.

(If anyone's up for doing some day shots of my car, I'm up for a little driving.. anyone near Bellevue or Seattle? *begs*)

    Edit:
    The front:

      ^Thanks.

Btw, I forgot to mention... I got this car as a fixer-upper at a steal. 1825 before taxes and registration. The car was under 115,000 miles, and still was until last week when I drove it down to Beaverton for Christmas and back.

But the thing is, it was advertised at 2100 and she took my second offer. So I could have gone lower, much lower... /)_-

Me: "yeah, there are some minor problems here and there, including the clutch and high idle, can I get it for 1800?" (I thought I low balled her)

Her: "Yeah, how about 1850 and we got a deal?"

Me: "what about meeting in the middle at 1825?"

      Her: "Cash?"

      Me: "Yep"

      Her: "You got a deal"

But I feel good knowing that I rescued this car from the grave. It was sitting in an impound/recovery lot in Seattle for 2 years and if there was only one other buyer that was low-balling (under 1k) and being rude to the girl so she was going to get the impound garage to part the car out if I hadn't came along because this car was on the verge of being undrivable.

I had to replace all four brake rotors (1000 dollars from a *garage* ) because they were cracked, warped, and may have caught on fire at one point.

That would be awesome! I have been compulsively downloading photos of 16v Mercs and other W201s since right before I got my car (I started when I found out the car I was about to buy was a Cosworth).

Haha, yup, even better when mated to a dogleg pattern close-ratio 5-speed Getrag gearbox.

Although, some say the 2.3-16s were the best 16 valves short of the Sport Evos. The 2.5-16s were more powerful but refined and tamed by Mercedes engineers and lost some of it's charm. Kind of like the AP1 vs AP2 with the S2000.

I will try to get a photo session with some friends when I get the nose cut down. Right now it's reverse raked.

Thanks man. It's amazing fun to drive, pretty loud, really wakes me up in those cold, lazy mornings.

Unfortunately, the ones in my Facebook album is all there is for now.

I'll have it sitting level (I have a reverse-rake mexi-stance right now) on 16x8 500e wheels wrapped in 205/45/16s and euro headlights soon...

I'll get some good SLR pictures up when I get it back from the shop (dead ignition tumbler).

But for now... this is a picture I took as a joke when it was on jack stands in my driveway..

                    Beaner-stance, haha.. (webcam pic... sorry..)

                    Bump:
Nevermind, I found two high quality pictures taken on a cruise.

And a candid shot of me parked next to an acquaintance's M6 before we took off, I'm the guy in the glasses and the hat backwards.
