  • Mazda6i (Newbie here)

Hey guys, my name is Jonny. I currently own a Mazda6i, it's also my first car. But I plan on getting an EclipseGSX later on. I'm still at a young age so...yeah lol, but I am doing some things for my 6i. And I was wondering if you guys could help me out? Like tell me what I can do to it. I currently plan on putting new rims(most likely Rota's), new taillights(Spyder's), Fog-lights, and possibly lower. Tell me what you think and give me some more ideas! Make sure they're not so expensive! I'm only 17 ahaha. Here is a few pics of my Mazda, and the rims I plan on getting(Rota Torque), it's 18 inches.

you have plenty of potential with this car, but not with Rota's. Look into suspension first and get it sitting right first

Thanks, and why not? I think they're unique, plus not a lot of people in my area have Rota's. Thats why i like them, and i cant get into suspensions just yet cause of the roads here. But ill deff look into them in the future.

let's be honest here...you're not really interested in Rotas because their "unique." You're interested in them because they're cheap.

You're not refusing to get into suspension because the roads are bad, you're not getting into it because it's expensive.

I'm going to try to help you a bit too. You have a nice car to start with and I understand the allure of Rota's. They look good and they are very inexpensive. For the street they will work fine. However unique is not a word to describe Rota's, since they are simply replica's, as in copies of higher end manufacturers designs. Now before anyone gets carried away, I had a set on my RX-7. A set of 15x8 RB's. Basically a Panasport/Minilite knockoff. They did the job, looked decent and appeared fairly well made. However if unique is your goal, put off spending money for now, save it and buy something that nobody has. I got rid of mine and bought a set of BBS RS to refinish. They so far have run about 3 times the cost of the RB's, but not too many other first gen RX-7's are running them on top of the fact that I can customize them to my taste and make them truly unique to me. This may be your best choice since the initial cost is fairly low compared to a new set of multi-piece rims then you just buy what you need as the money becomes available.

Second thing, if you want to modify your car at all your going to have to make compromises. If you don't want to do any suspension work, then your car is going to look silly with aftermarket rims and 4 inches of fender gap. I've been through a lot of New York state before when I was a long haul trucker. You think you've got bad roads, go visit Michigan.

Lastly, do not try to skimp on aftermarket parts. You will just end up doing things twice or more to get it right. I as well as others can tell you from first hand experience. It will cost you more in the long run, both money and time not to mention the frustration. Spend your time saving and doing research online and you'll be much more happy with the outcome.

              Good luck.

Alright thanks orion84gsl, but the thing is, I dont wanna waste too much money on the rims. It's just these are hubcaps and they're so ugly. Plus I'm only planning on having this Mazda for at least 4 years. Just a small project car so I can learn how to put things into place and all. And maybe some parts of New York's roads are good, but from my city, Utica, there is a lot of bumps and potholes. It's pretty bad. So I'm saving money for suspension for later on. But now I just wanna focus on rims and taillight. But I guess I can still do more research and all. Thanks budd.

Sounds like you want a prettier DD, not a slammed car.

                  I suggest starting here: http://forum.mazda6club.com/wheels-t...rs-wheels.html
Read those setups, choose one you like, and if you look thru classifieds for used springs in this case, you can probably get it looking decent for <1k, given that the US is cheap as fuck for used car parts in general compared to Canada...

Get some Eibach pro kit springs, or the Mazdaspeed ones. If you look thru that thread you will see how retarded these cars look not dropped on anything aftermarket, as above, no joke there's 4" of gap... GL!
