  • G'day - KE70 Corolla Australia

Hello, just thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm a long time stalker but only just signed up.

My names Jarrad, I'm almost 20 and I'm from Melbourne, Australia.
My daily driver is just a plain ol' 1994 Commodore, hoping to upgrade to a 2004ish Maxima.

This is my little project, a 1984 Toyota Corolla. Picked it up cheap and started with a big overhaul right away. It's had all the rust repaired, a conversion from slant front to flat front with quadlights.

Everyone on stanceworks is concerned about suspension... so here goes.
    Choppies up the front.
Choppies in the rear with short stroke shocks from a Holden wagon.

Wheels are 14x7.5 around about a 0 offset.

It won't physically go any lower without upgrading to coilovers, but the essence of this build was to improve my skills in welding and repair work and to see what can be done for under $2000. And as you may or may not know, where I live it's illegal to have your car lower than 10mm from it's lowest point, which is usually the muffler or cat. Some cops work off the height of a coke can. Makes it hard for us to actually get a "stance" without airbags or getting a defect notice.

I've got a 5 speed gearbox on a crate in my garage alongside a new engine.

    When I purchased it:

    Some repair work small shots:

    How it is currently:

Well, I can give you some build pics if you'd like.

Picture from the sales ad I bought it from, stock as a rock:

It had a lot of rust in the rear - dodgy boot (trunk, haha) repair. There was also a lot of rust in the rear arches

                New engine to go in:

This day, we almost had a fatality. It almost fell front first off the hoist. Luckily, it caught on by just millimetres.

Here it went in for a roadworthy, undercoat and all.

I ripped the front off for the conversion. The headlights are actually adapted from an RT104 Corona to fit.

Here it is, mid-build with my daily.

                Respray:

Rear suspension set-up, there's not much more I can do here. As you can see, it's about one finger off the bumpstops:

This was the initial clearance with a bit of the coils cut. It's lower than that now but the "coke can test" is common among police here. If you drive over it and it falls over they'll defect you.

My wheels also came in, i stripped the gold paint off them:

And this is the height I would eventually like it sitting at. But maybe in the future:

Love the side mirrors! Maybe a 20 valve in the future?

The fender mirrors were pretty much a requirement!

And a 20v conversion isn't that easy surprisingly. It's just common. It's just as easy to put a V6 that's in my daily in it!
But who knows? It could very well happen!

The new engine is a 5k from a Townace van with a Weber carby. It'll add some pep to it with lower end torque.

Looks tough man! Last 2 pics look good, if you eventually get it that low.

A nice mod from slant front to flat front, quad head lights, although I do prefer the flat front (non quad lights)

                            I have an AE71 myself.

40mm lowered springs all round at the moment and will have to go down at least another 2" up front and about 1" in the rears.

Mmm, rears is easy. I'll have to upgrade to XT130 Corona struts/coilover set-up to get the front lower. I'll probably get onto that once the engine is in.
