  • Formal Greetings

Thought it was time to introduce myself, and of course the only reason anyone goes on here, the car. The car in question, a '94 BMW 325is I've dubbed "Babp", or BrokeAssBimmerProject. Girlfriend calls her Sookie, but thats whatever.

Now to get the boring stuff out of the way, a little about me. Names Michael Hagen. Middle name is Steven if you must know. Put the middle and last together and whoa buddy, you've got Stagen. Name came around when I was at the tender age of 13 or so and its been a nickname since. Now fast forward to the present and Im just a broke 20 year young person with out much to show for the projects I've worked on. First car was a '91 Talon, AWD turbo, bought for $300, just needed to rebuild the motor. That got the whole ball rolling on the addiction that is the automobile. Then came a DelSol, two EK Civic sedans (one with a B16 swap, also had to rebuild that one) and then my favorite car so far, a '96 240sx. Her name was Momo. Let me tell you now, I love these cars, the s-cahssis. I wasnt able to do anything extremly special for her with limited money, just some coilovers, stock G35 wheels and ebay exhaust since the stocker rusted off. But after having the front end smashed two winters in a row, almost on the same days, I believed it to be a curse I couldnt break.. and I was running out of zipties. To craigslist she went, and she was picked up in record time.

Now, car-less, the heat was on to find a car. I figured I wanted to go somewhat luxury, so BMW came to mind. the only thing close enough and cheap enough came to be the "Babp". How silly of me to think I was going the luxury route. A 5 or 7 series? Sure. The 3 series, little did I realize, was the the rough and tough little tuner car of BMW... not so luxurious. Oh well, I tried to mature right?

Now money is even tighter now that I moved out and Im attempting to save for school, which starts in June. $8.5k tuition, zero saved, and a car parts buying addiction that still remains. But after 6 months at the glass plant I work at I realize now that I dont want boring brain dead job anymore, and to school I must go. Ive attempted going to school twice by now. Once for Mechanical Design and the other for Machine Tooling. Now dont get me wrong, Im no dumby, I just lack the motivation to sit in a desk and learn at a snails pace with the other students that just dont get it. So I dropped out bothe times before lasting a semester. With those two failed attempts, and blowing all the inheritance money on the failed schooling Ive decided to suck it up and stick it out. Yay, go me!

Sob story aside, Ive managed to a little tiny bit to the dear old "Babp" of mine.
She came bone stock, with a decent set of records. But after a couple weeks of owning her I swear every 'common problem' to do with the E36 has happened. Door latch sensor is worn so the 'courtesy window' control causes the window to slide up and down while driving over bumps... a bandaid holding the sensor down has literally 'band-aided' the problem for now. The driver side door handle broke, the sunroof broke (crazy chick pouring gravel into my car through the sunroof probably didnt help that one), interior is going to shit, and random electrical problems (Low Coolant my ass! Yes I replaced the sensor)

So far most of my money has gone into boring stuff: Complete coolant system overhaul, knock sensors, brakes, wheel bearing, alignment(after chewing through a few tires way to fast)
But I did manage to set her down on a set of Rokkor coils and bumped the stock 15's out with 20mm spacers all around. She currently is lacking the headliner, front door panel inserts, rear panels and package shelf, has a scar on her hood from the po, has a poor paint matched driver side, bolts coverin spoiler holes in the trunk, basically just needs a new paint job.

And I find myself thinking, 'Wow I should've kept my 240 and I would've had my front end fixed by now.' But it is what it is, and theres no way I'd be able to get rid of poor 'Babp' in this condition. So I'll stick it out... for now.

Thanks. I picked up some Style 19's over the weekend so I think an actual build thread is in order soon.
I was hoping to get my real project car, '68 Ford Falcon, into the garage to work on over the winter, but I dont think it'll make it, so I'll be doing some little projects for the E36. The plan for the Falcon was to adapt the rear subframe and IRS from a 240sx along with the front suspension. Maybe next summer tho.
