  • my '07 VW Jetta GLI

I've been lurking, but somehow I haven't made a intro thread yet, so here's my introduction, I don't have a name for my car, so I'll refer to her as the "female" or "her"

my name is Roman, I'm in late 20's, I've been a fan of anything that has wheels and some type of motor since I've seen a bicycle; I moved to US from Russia around 13 years ago, and I'm loving it here

over last few years I've had a few cars, and got more and more involved with "modding", most notable: '98 Mercedes ML320, 2000 Audi A6 2.7T 6spd, 1983 Porsche 944 (which was stripped off interior, with Redline half cage, Porsche cup wheels with Toyo R1R's, Racetech RT4000wx seats, manual steering, headlight conversion)

I was shopping for a '06 Pontiac GTO 6spd/A4 in Burnt Orange Metallic color, which is RARE and is way too expensive now, when my uncle called and mentioned a "supercharged" '07 Jetta - which turned out to be a factory turbocharged, 2.0 FSi Jetta GLi - so we checked it out - and bought it with cash ... no car payment = MORE $$$ for MODS !!!

going to be a slow work in process, but here's what I started with and how it got so far

when I first got it - only 1 shot of the front:

badgeless honeycomb grill and open fog grills:

then it got lowered on FK Silverline coilovers - all the way down - all the way around - with helpers still in place (which, if I don't go with air suspension this coming spring - will be removed):

then I bought a nice used Votex lip for the front - it came off of a Reflex Silver MK5 GTi - I didn't bother with paint because its late in the fall now, but it will get painted for Spring - when I get Votex sides and rear - and get them all done at the same time

pretty much how the car sits at the moment, after suspension has settled and everything:

got some new wheels for her, these are the ones you may have seen in the classifieds - 18x8.5 et 48 (or 46?) fronts, and 18x9.5 et 36 (or 38) rears, Weds Kranze ERM - 3 piece, came in and they are in very good condition, faces and barrels are perfect, but I'll probably get lips refinished, or get new lips to replace these - here's a test fit in the rear - since I am mostly concerned with the rear fitment (I know fronts will fit for sure)

    Future plans:

    - either a Boser, or a notchless carbon fiber hood in flat wrap
    - Votex side skirts and rear add on
    - swap with air suspension, or remove the helper springs in front and bump stops in the back
    - Wolfsburg grill swap
    - get the wheels finished up, with some 215/40/18" mounted
    - navigation/ipod hookup

I'm still getting used to the car, its a DSG and a lot of fun, I miss manual gear box, but at this point, I wouldn't want to go back to manual.

I'm still looking around for something "fun" like a '64 Impala or Mercedes V8 from same years, to be a "mod fun" car; I'm eyeing a few more cars, but I always say, a car that you own and make no payment on, doesn't make sense to get rid of it ... so save save save as much as you can and then get something else

So here it is, 'm very open minded when it comes to modifying things, I can take criticism to a point, so let me know what you think, and what suggestions you may have!

    Thanks!

PS: my screen name is how my name would be spelled in Russian

          thanks guys!

who'd be good at contacting to get the lips refinished? or a source of new lips that look like the ones I have?

I e-mailed Tunershop but they said they only deal with step lips, but I don't want to go to 19"
