sup guys, another new one here. signed up because i need to learn the ways of stance, and because the wheels i'm planning on very much won't fit without a lot of work. there's only one place to go for learning about fitment, and that's the stance camp
i proudly rock a little 93 Honda del Sol Si, but i'm getting a little tired of rolling stock. both on the power and wheel front. had plans to do a K24 swap, 5-lug conversion and pick out some nice 16s, but plans changed to something a little more radical (and most of the styles i ended up liking started at 17...). i've decided to scavenge one of two nonworking 240SXs i bought from an auction and convert the sol into a straight mount SR20DET with full Nissan RWD underpinnings. naturally, this prevents me from buying wheels until i've both converted the drivetrain and put on a Nissan 5-lug conversion, but it's probably for the better.
here's a pic from when i bought her in December:

but as for why i'm here! i need advice. there aren't many sick sol builds out there that inspire me, but coming across the Top Fuel del Sol has changed my view on the car. i'm planning on emulating some of the style points of the car, mainly the wheel size. looking at the Advan RZ 17x9.5" wheels (+30 offset), and expected a lot of work to make them fit. the question is what kind of work i should expect? admittedly a full noob with rims as i've never worried about them before. i'm aiming for maintaining performance with eventual goals of tracking and drifting it, so tire stretching is out of the question. however i'd like to flare out the fenders to keep it flush and tight without rub. i'm not sure what style of flare i intend on and am open to suggestions. also fairly certain i have to do work to the inner fender wall, but how much work is involved and is it easier to simply replace the tub entirely? for suspension i'm not sure where to go. i was leaning toward Teins but recently have been considering air for reasons of clearance and security. anybody with air suspension race or go hard with it? how does it compare to coilovers?
i also live in nyc, and work on the docks. that means lots of potholes, railroad tracks, extreme and sometimes sudden dips, sharp ramps, speed bumps, tire shredders, gravel/dirt roads with mystery debris, and so on. basically every hazard we dread i have to encounter daily. so while i'd like to get low i need some realistic input on what's a 'good' drop for these conditions so i don't scrape...sadly i can never run dumped. i was considering going with air simply so i can raise the car on particularly bad roads and tire shredders (i can hear it hitting SOMETHING even going over it at 5mph), but would probably still go with Teins if swayed away from it. security-wise, i figure a sol is fairly low to begin with and if towed by thieves it would tear the front end off when moved. with the car floored with air off, it's pretty much not getting stolen without a lot of work or determination. i could be missing something, but that's just from my observations on it.
basically, i want this car to be exponentially meaner than it currently is by the time i'm done with the suspension and footwork. however i could use as much input as possible on how to go about it. i can't decide on flare styling either. i've even considered emulating Ferrari styling with high, flared fenders and large wheels and a low drop. or a Lotus, where the the top of the fender seems to 'flatten' out on the sportier models. seems to me it's about the same amount of work as what i have in front of me already, but it's heavily dependent on the right guy doing the work correctly to make it work. wouldn't mind input on this idea either.
lastly, for anyone wondering why i don't just work the 240s...the planned donor chassis has rust on one of the unibody rails, as well as the typical hole cut out for an intercooler. we're not sure if it can handle the stress of a drift. the other is engineless and will receive either another SR20, an RB of some sort, or if i wait long enough an LS1. it's kind of a back-burner project since it doesn't run at all. thanks in advance for any input, and uh, reading this whole thing
