  • Yea Volvo!!!!

Hello everyone! My name is Stephen! i'm in school right now and live in Greensboro, NC. I've lurked on this site FOREVER and just finally made a username. I've had many different kinds of cars/trucks, but right now i've got a focus (my DD) and a 1990 volvo 740 GL (my project). I've lowered the car in the couple years i've had it, but after going to the ISO/Stance:nation meet last weekend, I want to lower my car more and poke the wheels out and all that mess. I've seen a few 240s that have are sitting nice, but not many clean 740s, and I hope to change that.

Well before I go posting a ton of pictures, I want to give a short history of my volvo. I got it for free from a family friend. its my seventh volvo i've had, and is the biggest POS of them all haha. I first was going to use it as my DD because i had a mustang that got like 12 mpg, but then i sold the mustang, got the focus, and now i can do whatever i want to with the volvo.

the car had been sitting for probably 4 years before I got it. it was nice and moldy and nasty. I spent a whole two days cleaning it and it actually turned out nice. here is what it looked like the first day i brought it home

I did some work on it, lowered it some, and got a hold of some paint cans and came up with this:

The car kept having problems, so i parked it, as i moved 2 hours away. I got some of the problems fixed, and now its pretty much good to go. I just have to drive it around town and make sure its somewhat reliable (as reliable as a 20 year old volvo that sat for ~5 years can be haha), then DD it. Here is how it looks right now

(yes, that is a GTR badge haha.) i've got some plans for it.. some short term ones are to cut some more coils. I already cut 1.5 all around, I am going to do another 1.5 so I can get it sitting loww. spending a couple hundred on new wheels isn't in the budget right now, so what I'm going to do is just use the stock wheels until I either get spacers or different wheels. thats pretty much it haha. I hope to get some good ideas from some of yall's awesome cars. Thanks!!

    Stephen

Hello Stephen. I'm Stephens. Nice 740. I am a Volvo fan and love the 740's especially the wagons. I see you have GTR aspirations. Might you consider the 1jz/2jz Toyota motor.

if i do anything performance-wise, it'll be to turbo the motor in there now. if i swap anything in it, it'll probably be an LSx motor. The GT-R badge is just for fun. it makes people laugh, and i have fun with that.

haha You didn't like the blue wheels? They were a bit much, but i kinda liked them...i like the current color sooo much better now though.

I've got a couple phases of plans that I want to do to it. First, now that i've got it running, I want to drive it around town for a day and just make sure its a-ok. I also want to cut another 1.5 coils all around (that'll make it 3 coils I've cut..) and then make a belly pan for it just in case. then i want to drive it for a while. The second phase is wheels/tires. My old boss has some wheels that he's not using (went from cars to jeeps) and might sell them to me. Then some tires and have a low, cut-spring, stanced volvo. Then, last step would be to bag it and then do something with the motor. Oh yea, all throughout this, i'm going to be re-doing a lot of the interior and trying to make it look better..

Good start, No need for a pan though, the only thing your gonna mess up is the subframe and that's only if you hit a water main or something.
