  • New TE72 Owner from KY

I recently picked up a 81 Corolla Deluxe Wagon. It is a automatic car with a 5-speed swap. Has a 3TC, not sure on the year, not even sure if it is the original engine. I traded my POS 98 Ford Ranger to it. The car is in okay shape. The body is a lil beat up, but for the most part its okay. I've had it for a little over a month now. I have given it a basic tune-up, plugs, wires, cap and button and have added a boso style exhaust. When I got it, it had bad rings so I tore it apart, got a new gasket kit, piston rings and some ARP head studs. It already had a set of Toyota P-type's or L-Types( not really sure which set it is), a header and a Weber carburetor. I don't plan on adding any boost, I am wanting it all motor with a set of velocity stacks. I don't want any crazy power, like 400HP or anything, I will be happy with 250 max.

I am planning on doing the AE86 suspension, brake and rear end swap. As far as the exterior goes, I plan on throwing on some Enkei 92's, some window visors and a front lip and that will probably be about it. I am trying to source new interior parts to restore it to its once glory.

thanks appreciate it guys, ive neglected my build updates for the past year. I ended up blowing a head gasket right after i started the build so it sat for a awhile until we rebuilt the 3TC. We had the head shaved about 10 thousands, had a little porting done to it, all new bearings, we just reused the stock pistons and rods, had the crank polished, all new gaskets and now I am daily driving it and have been for the past 4 months.

I finally got into gear a couple months ago and went and bought a part's car AE86 GTS coupe.

Right now I am in the process of getting all the front suspension and brakes swapped over. Going to go with some KYB's in the front with some cut Megan spring's for now until I can afford to waste a bunch of money on the T3 weld-on ground control coilover kit. I'm swapping over the GTS rearend out of the AE86 as well and putting some 4 inch drop blocks on it until I can figure out everything for the I.R.S. swap.

Very nice! I want to pick up a sedan or coupe next spring, always a fan of the old 'Yotas. Keep up the good work!

Well it has been like 2 years since I have updated this so I figured I would. I haven't got to do much with it really. It is my daily & 90 percent of my time the past 2 years has gone into my MX83 Track Car.

I have completely swapped the front suspension and brakes over now. It has Techno Toy Tuning TE72 Camber Plates, AE86 Strut Casings with KYB GR2's, AE86 Megan Lowering Spring's, AE86 Techno Toy Tuning RCA's, AE86 Front Sway Bar, Tension Rod's and Lower Control Arm's. New TE72 Tie Rod's, Idler Arm & Pitman Arm. I replaced the crappy blown shocks with some KYB GR2's and some 3 inch Lowering Block's. I swapped the front seats for a set of AE86 SR5 seats because I ***** the TE72's and I **** the GTS AE86 seats. I slapped some Mexican Blankets over the torn and tattered back seat & the center console out of my old AE86. Shit ton of stickers, a lip I stole off a buddies S10 That I hacked up and zip tied together & a wood grain Grip Royal later it is starting to look like something.

I just scored a set of AE86 Lower Control Arms off a buddy that I am having cut, extended and boxed and welded up. I'm probably only going to go 20mm, I may go 25mm who knows. I ended up getting hard up for cash a few months ago when I wrecked it drifting and sold my GTS rear end and decided to just weld mine up.

I am getting ready to go thru the engine again and completely redo it. New Rod's & Piston's, Mild Cam, New Valve-train and a set of Side Draft's. I'm not trying to build it to be a monster, lol. I just want a little more ummmph and reliability. I rape the shit out of it every time I drive it, but you have to because 75 HP barely lets you do the speed limit haha. I'm also ordering some SW20 MR2 Front Struts and a DIY Weld on Coilover Kit from T3, Cut & Shorten the casings and I already have a pair of KYB AGX's from a Camaro that I'm waiting to install. Ordering a set of Tension Rod's and the Adjustable TE72 Tie Rod's from T3 and I will call it quits for a while maybe lol.
This is by far the best car I have ever had, the most reliable and by far the funniest to drive. You just feel happy when you get in it and start driving, there is just something about it.

Also here is a few pic of the money pit that is my drift car 92 MX83 Cressida
