  • UK E46 Cab intro thread, Weak iPhone pics

    Hi

I've been lurking for a while so thought I should register and say hello.

I'm from Newcastle but I'm in the navy currently based in plymouth, I drive an '02 e46 cab..

a few weeks after i got it and immediatley after a good clean

I enjoyed driving it round bone stock for a while before getting bored with it so i did a few little cosmetic mods like satin black kidney grilles, smoked indicators and side repeaters, angel eyes, stubby aerial and de badged the boot lid while on the inside the std leather gear and h/brake gaiters got replaced with black suede jobbies

the std exhaust started to blow so it was replaced with a subtle custom built s/s cat back with twin 2" round pipes by http://www.aas-exhausts.co.uk/ who did a great job..

then I started looking for something to replace the awful standard 16" style 45's, I wanted something OEM so after bidding on (and either being outbid at the last min or messed around by the seller) various bmw wheels (MV's, MV2's, style 32's and style 5's mostly)
i bid and won a set of genuine but very tired 18" m3 wheels which are 8x18 et46 F and 9x18 et27 R. the wheels quickly got delivered to the powdercoaters for a fresh coat of steel grey sparkle (oem is lighter centres with a polished lip) and to be fitted with 215/35/18 FK452's all round

shortly after that I ordered some Jamex coilovers and duely fitted them

    Image

they settled about another inch from there but couldnt be wound down any further at this point due to the spring platform catching the rim (35mm thread left)

since then i've fitted 25mm spacers up front bringing the effective offset to et22 with the wheels sitting flush, and wound the coilovers down another inch, leaving 10mm left on the threads which makes getting off my drive painful

i'm lost with what to do with it now, i'd like to get the back down another inch, roll the arches and get some 15mm spacers on the rear. but then i keep looking at jag X types.. and i've got an alfa romeo 147 sat on the drive at home doing nothing too...

the only thing i've done to it for a while was fit these

after someone decided they needed the original ones more than i did

sorry for the awful iphone pics, will try to get some better ones once it's had a good detail and the sun is out

Meh, not overly impressed by the wheel choice.

Nice looking cab though, be sure to check out the UK section at the bottom of the board index and the meet in my sig.

          E46 cab update

thought i'd update this although there isnt much to update... copied over from wheel whores

weather in plymouth is lovely so ive been rolling with the top down all day, managed to get beached on a little speedbump on plymouth hoe infront of a massive crowd so decided to sulk home and give it a mini-detail

going to paint the calipers and wheel lips in the next few weeks but really cant decide on a colour, been through pink, gold, silver, splatter painted, crinkle finish etc etc but cant decide..

which brings us up to last week, after a few kerb related mishaps I had to tidy the rims up. Instead of rattle canning them i opted to polish the lips.

so i went at the rims with a sanding disc in my grinder

that's after the initial powdercoat and kerb rash removal with a 80 grit disc.

here's the finished article after going through 80, 120 & 240 grit in the grinder and 400, 600, 800, 1200 and 1500 wet & dry by hand then attacking them with autosol

they're not 100% perfect, but i'm really picky.. could do with some compount and a mop but that'll wait.

all in all it took two full afternoons (mid day till 7ish) and i managed to get myself nicely sunburnt in the process..

and i picked these up today, because i'm a real OG
