  • New from Florida's Space Coast

Hey I'm Jacob. I'm 17 for a couple months, and I drive an '89 MR2 for right now. I'm currently looking for a daily, but I'm picky as hell, and cheap as hell too.

I've owned 6 cars, if you count the other two MR2 parts cars.

1st was a 1982 Mitsubishi made Dodge Challenger

Sold it because of electrical issues and lack of time to do a 5 speed swap.

Next was a 1990 Volvo 240 wagon. Picked it up for a song, Sold it before it was even tagged after I got my first MR2. You can see it in that picture.

Got my '89 MR2 with about 150k, needing a clutch. Mostly it's been maintenance and driving daily but I did get the chance to throw in some Tokicos and TRD springs in the past couple years. It was on 15x7 BBS RG before I ran out of tires.
Now it's bascially on whatever I can find. I have a set of RS' waiting in the wings to either get redrilled or for when I go 5 lug.

Other than that, I picked up an '81 Corona wagon just for the hell of it. Slammed it as low as it would go without sectioned struts (literally sitting on shortened bumpstops). Had a lot of fun with that car. Sold it to fund my yet to be purchased daily.

I also have some parts cars... The '88 SC used to look like this.

Now it looks a little more like this.

Don't worry, it was a rotbox. Bought for the Motor/Tranny and because you just can never have too many parts.

The 85' parts car is in my Sig. It's a really clean shell. Still not sure on the plans for that one.

Somehow, All this time, I never really managed to get any good photos of the cars...
    Oh well.

Great lineup man, wish I could've snagged that Volvo from you, I could've considered driving down for it

Looking forward to seeing the MR2 come to life, kramerbuccs24 has a nice 1st-gen too so you'll want to hit him up.

I've seen Kramer's car first on MR2oc and now here and it's definitely something to admire.

The 'rona was a lot of fun, Just a little too much going on to make it a reliable daily. I really wish I would've kept the Volvo now. I bought it from a friend. It was sitting for over a year, probably a few, outside. We put a good battery in it, turned the key, and it fired right up after no more than 6 or 7 turns. I'd love another 240, Wagon, Sedan, or the elusive 242... just as long as it's manual tranny. I think they're some of the most reliable cars out there, hands down.

The MR2 was the first manual car I owned, and after owning another old automatic (Corona), I really don't think I want any more to do with them.

I get the manual love, but I've always owned Autos (not completely by choice), and I can't complain. I've been lucky and have got most of them in excellent condition, so there's that.

I've only heard good things about 240s, hence my interest in one, and wagon love doesn't hurt. The newer Volvos are kinda sketchy though. My friend's ex bought one (an 850 I think) without really looking it over (her dad can change a battery so he thinks he's a mechanic), and if it wasn't breaking down, it was only because nobody was driving it. Then again, she drove around with the parking brake on on her old saturn, so maybe it was driver error

Anyway, keep the pictures and work coming, you've got some huge potential with that MR2

So I bought myself a new daily yesterday. It's an 81 300sd w126 bodystyle. Right now it just needs a timing chain, but it was $500 and I drove it home so I can't complain.

Excuse the pictures, as I can't really take it out of the driveway until it's tagged.

Interior is meh. Most of the stuff works though. I need to check out two of the windows.

                Diesel Power!

The body's nice and straight. Only rust is in the trunk; up under the package tray and in the rear trunk wells.

So first thing I need to do is get it mechanically sound. It's got 16"s on it that I'm really not diggin', but I'm sure the 4x4 ride height isn't helping. This is supposed to be the "practical daily driver" so I can't get too crazy... The RS' will fit with some wobble bolts though.

You dirty bastard, I've been trying to find a Diesel forever!

In all seriousness, looks like a good DD, hope it came with not too many problems. Worse comes to worse, I might know a guy who would want it

I ordered my timing chain, tensioner, spring, and guide yesterday.
$200 but I'll still only be $700 into the car if everything works out.
I'm really going to try to focus on NOT going overboard on this one. I need all the money and time I can give myself for the MR2(s). The ideas flow too fast though...
If I get it 100% I might due some research into bio-diesel conversion. Free/Near free fuel would be really, really nice.

nice w126 man, i have a w126 300 SDL the longer version diesel with the v6 turbo !

wvo and bio diesel may get annoying if you don't have proper space and equipment, GL with your build

Mercedes is clean(er) and got a nice, blue "antique" tag as of today. Timing chain and parts shipped off today from AZ. Can't wait!

Found some tires for the RG so they got shot white and mounted today as well. Time to go put the car back together and throw them on. I have a bad wheel bearing... No time to replace it so I'm going to clean it out and regrease it to get me back on the road.
Really sucks having to make due with used/ beat parts because I need to drive it.

Soon enough she'll be inside, getting a GZ swap and hopefully a 5 lug conversion too. Just need to find some SW20 brakes and start gathering up parts.

And thanks for the kind words
