  • BMW E34 525i - M62 incoming

    Hi,

I thought some people here might like to see this. My E34 525i from Germany. It's my third E34. My first one was killed by rust, the second one got crashed by a dude i know. He crashed it and a week later I had this one in my driveway, paid by him. Since that, we are kind of best buddies and I have a special connection to this car. So I decided to make something good out of it.

    Changes so far:
    - Rial F1 8.5x17 ET16 and 10x17 ET 29, 15mm spacers all around
    - 215/45 and 235/40 Hankook Evo1
    - Complete M-Technik Bumper kit
    - New original Hella Headlights
    - Red license.. thing on the trunk
    - Red Taillights
    - Lowtec Coilover suspension
    - Many technically repairs

    About to change:
    - Bought a second E34 with a M62B44 in it, where the chassys is totally fucked up by rust. Gonna swap that thing in in winter
    - Get it on some nice 18 inch wheels and lower it more
    - Get a LSD
    - Paint the whole car
    ..more to come.

Havn't posted in a while.. A lot happened.

Found some RH XD wheels, 8,5x18 and 10x18. I switched the rears to the front and bought a pair of 4,25 for the rears. Now they're 9 and 11x18. Had to do a lot of polishing with these..
Powdercoated the centers in chrome and then coated them again with black glaze:

Bought a cheap but complete 4 calpier brake kit from a E32 750i. Sealed them and threw a neochrome coat on them:

                  EBC everything:

Installed additional gauges. Oil-Pressure, Oil-Temp and Volts. Oh, and I got a signature from the man himself - Walter Röhrl

                  Did something to the Valve-Covers:

And now, how it sits (a bit more low will definetly come):

FMD that's nice! I had just convinced myself to not get an E34 too...

One question, has the M62 had its timing chain tensioners replaced? It's something that comes up on forums a bit as an issue with the m62.

Haha, I can only recommend these things

The M62 is designed with a single timing chain with a U-shaped plastic guide rail. That's it's weak spot. It should be replaced between 150k and 200k km. As long as you care about this, you won't have much trouble with it. I chose the M62 because I wanted something that hasn't been in the E34 from factory. Also, the M62 is slightly more aggressive reving than the sluggish M60.

You can use an M60 chain kit on non-Vanos M62 engines and just forget about timing part breaking. Also, using M60B40 cylinder heads on a 4.4 will notably increase power.

                          Nice build and good luck!
