You may remember my '75 benz... or maybe you don't, I don't know. I only made one post about it. If you do remember it, here's a look back. If not, this will catch you up to speed.
Okay, so that's that. Its a '75 240D. It's slow as hell, but way too much fun. Its like driving a blimp.... well, it sat for a long time, as I had way too many other projects going on... but then Ben (Jedidiah for the uninformed) decided he wanted to buy it from me. I said "why not", but was a little sad I never got to do anything with it.
Ben said to me "Mike, build me a benz. I want a "Mike Burroughs" Benz."
And so I did.
I knew I wanted to paint it a tannish coffee color. No one really agreed with me, saying it'd clash with the interior and such. A few said to go for it, but as always, I just did it anyway.
To accent the body, I wanted to do an off-white roof and hubcaps. Again, lots of negative feedback in the planning stage... I don't think anyone said I should do it. But again, I was building "my own" car here.
How low is it?
The answer is pretty simple. The oil pan rests on the ground. No bags or hydros here.
Its not practical yet. The subframe is less than an inch from the ground, but after some simple modifying, this thing will be ready to cross the country... and get 40mpg too.
So I guess for anyone who doubted that we keep it classy down here, let this be a lesson.
And for what its worth, the pics really don't do the ride height justice. You can't physically see under the car, even if you lay down. You cant put your hands under it. You cant drive over a car key laying flat.
I think we're on to something here.
And yes, it just drags while driving.
