  • Project 911 Something, Building The Dream.

My name is Evan, and this is my 1975 911 long term build......... emphasis on long term.

I have a background in racing and this was supposed to be just a cheap fun car after growing tired of having a trailer only race car.

    It all started so innocently.

And then I started to Autocross it.

And that lead to going back out to the track.

Which inevitably led to the realization that 38 year old 3pt. belts and stock seats wasn't confidence inspiring when pushing the limits.

    And so the build began.

Lots of floor tar and glue to be removed.

    Making progress.

The factory sound deadening glue had caused rust to form under the paint where it was applied so the only solution was to grind it all back.

Which led to doing the engine compartment as well because while making a mess......

With all the floor tar, undercoating and seam sealer gone, finally some primer.

Then a test fit of the new composite doors and it was off to the fabricators.

LucasFab in Huntington Beach handled the cage fabrication based off of my design and I couldn't be more pleased with the results, he is one talented guy. Sure it's built like a tank, but I always liked the look of a stout, well designed cage. Having gotten used to the chassis rigidity of modern race cars, I wanted to stiffen up this early tub as much as possible. Primary cage construction is 1.75"x.095" 4130, with additional braces and gusset tubes out of 1.25"x.095".

Tie in for coil-over rear suspension.

Lots of tie-ins in the front trunk.

Stitch welded into the car where ever possible.

        Lovely nodes.

And the signature LucasFab Union Jack door bar arrangement.

        Pure weld porn.

A simple flat X on the passenger side, gusseted correctly for proper load distribution in the event of a side impact.

And the fabrication continues, a test fit of the seat onto the modified floor and Cup car sliders before adding any more gussets.

Crash bar in front of the gas tank.

Further gusseting for those times when the car takes flight.

Yep, the gas tank still fits!

An e30 and this right here are the only 2 cars i'd ever fully rebuild for track use. This is awsome, amazing fab work on that cage as well. Can't wait to see progress. Sub'd

Any plans to freshen up the engine? That cage is beast and the car is indeed pornworthy

Thanks for the kind words guys, its been a long build and still has a long ways to go.

Tecknix, The motor I have for the car is a small port 3.0L with roughly 40k miles on it. The plan is to pull the heads and port them to large port specs (open up the intake port from 35mm to 39mm), ditch the CIS, and adapt on a VarioRam intake from a late model 993 (multi-lenght intake tract intake that should boost midrange torque by 15-20ft/lb). This requires custom injector holders and fuel rails be made which i'm in line for at the machine shop. To run the intake I will likely end up with a M84 Motec which will allow the use of coil on plug ignition and clean up the engine bay greatly. Coupled with some trick stepped headers, it should be a good reliable 220-230whp motor. As much as I would love a hot rod motor, it will have to wait. Just getting the car back on the road with the mods I want without cutting too many corners is Job #1.

Coupled to the motor will be the original '75 915 gear box that has been refreshed with all new syncros and dog teeth, and upgraded for race use through a Guard 80/80 diff, and WEVO internal spray bar and trash filter set up for an external cooler. Upgrading to a G50 box and/or short gears will have to wait till a later date.

You can just see the tip of the spray bar where it squirts on the pinion with what is left of the volume that didn't come out over the 5 gears.
