Just tell them that it's a style much like clothing. People make some pretty stupid compromises just to look the way they want, so what's so different about doing a car up the same way? It usually persuades people to accept the style instead of judging it as a stupid waste of money.


Not really car guys, but the kids in my neighborhood like to make car sounds like mine when I drive by, it's super funny because my car is running rich and pops a lot when its cold and they try to make the same noise.

I drove my M3 to my grandparent's house yesterday for Easter. When everyone went outside for pictures, all of my aunts and uncles were on my case. "Ooooh, Mr. Big Shot with his BMW! I bet that costs a fortune to maintain! How'd you afford that? Oh your wife has a BMW too?! You must be making the big bucks!"

And then my uncle proceeds to tell me that he paid $8,500 for a V6 Mustang and I die a little on the inside.
