  • Dance with me at the Prom

I've never really posted on here before mostly because I was busy with vortex. But Vortex really has started to lose me. Builds here inspire me to make mine better... and want to do more, and never be happy.

Insight. I bought this crap box in 2008. I drove it around as a daily for a while, I got stranded, put a new motor in it.... and then it died again. I always had a dream of restoring it, and making it into PVW. I started slowly gathering parts, and funds over the course of a few years, and the past two years I've worked pretty hard on this car. I built this entire car by myself, tuned it myself and painted it myself. I run an Autobody shop, and just had my first child 8 months ago, when I'm not at work or playing dad... I've spent 1-2 hours a week trying to accomplish something on the car.

Look how ugly these Recaros were... the kid who owned the car before me ruined a nice set of Tropheys.

This is what the car looked like when I first got it...

First thing I did was lower it.

After about a year of dailying it, I polished the faded paint it looked okay, previous owner burned through all over the car, I just didn't care enough to do anything... then the CIS started giving me troubles... I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was causing my hot start problems.

This picture was prob the last time the car was clean.

At first I wanted to keep it bare minimum, not pull the motor, just clean it up in there and not make it a " show car " as the plans of the car were to drive it. So I pulled the CIS , because NOTHING was fixing the problem.
The previous owner, must have pulled the engine at some point, and rustoleumed it... because it was caked in rustoluemed red... And that shit never dries... so I wanted to make it nice, and the only way was to strip it off... what a nightmare this was. ( THIS IS WHEN I SHOULD HAVE PULLED THE MOTOR)

The I had to prime it.

So then I sprayed the bay with Red Single Stage just to give it a shine.

Engine bay came out great I was happy with it.

Then I rebuilt the Trans... all new gaskets, diff kit, everything. Powercoated my brackets etc

Then it was spring... then I got a free motorcycle...

Then I started on this motorcycle , kinda not caring about the car

Then I finished the bike, and rode the crap out of it. It's a 79 GS 550.

Then I got married. ( This is June 23rd 2012)
Then she got pregnant on the Honeymoon.

Then I pulled the motor, wtf is wrong with me.

Then I kinda said, well I pulled the motor might as well rebuild it

Then because I wasn't originally going to pull the motor, I was staring at dirty crap... then I pulled out all that crap and installed new control arms, bushings, a rack, ball joints etc.

    Much better

Then I finally put the motor and trans in.

Every picture here is from my crappy cell phone Camera, and I suck at taking pictures sorry if they are blurry.

    Next I recovered my Recaros

Then I started looking at wheel options, and I found a set of Zenders I really liked.

After I dropped the motor in and finished all the wiring. I wanted to tune the car before I did anything else.

1.8L PL head rebuilt with Schrick Lightweight Valve springs, retainers and lifters
    Schrick 276 cams
    Raceland Header
Weber 45s running on MSD Digital 6AL, with MSD Timing Advance Computer

    Found some rust

    I love my dash isn't cracked . I'm sorry

Not looking forward to putting the doors back together

New drivers door, I got from a fellow Scirocco owner, mr.brown

    Mine was starting to rust

Doors are pretty straight, same with the rest of the car... they just need light bodywork

So I started doing the bodywork on the doors yesterday.
They are ready for primmer, I just ran out of etching primer.
Tonight they'll be primed. Then this coming weekend, it'll be time to prime the body.

Everything is going to be doubled primed, and blocked.

Ugh this was after I degreased it

rot on the bottom of the door

    More scuffing

    Yay door primer.

The old Single Stage was so faded and crinkled that I decided to strip the car.

So Fenders and Doors were ready to go!

Also reblocked and reprimed the doors and fenders

After this it was time to block it again, and reprime AGAIN.

    Sealer

    3 Coats of Clear.

Still have to tighten down the fenders & align this side a tiny bit better.

Finger in the shot , but you can see the chrome prop rod and hinges. I still have to put the chrome safety catch & valve cover on.

    Then I started ASSEMBLY ugh

Glass, handles, GLASS, retucking the headliner... seats...

MORE PAINT??? This car has so many fuking pieces, 4 flares, 2 valances, 2 rocker skirts.... thats just the bodykit!

Oh... then I spent HOURS putting on the bodykit... I also spent about 4 hours each tail light sanding them and shaving them.
Then she drove home 45 miles.

HEY BRO CAN I HANG OUT IN YOUR WHEEL GAP?

    Did I sneak these in?

When I first got them with the .5 inch lips...

    Yuck

This is how you get your wheels done, if you have a kid by the way... Wife says watch the kid, you say he's helping...

So now it's November... I finished the car last month... but am I really finished? I've done a lot of small tweeks here and there... As you can see in the last Engine Bay picture it looks different from a couple of months ago. I painted the car in July... and it took me almost 2 months to assemble it.
Now this winter the Engine Bay is going to get even cleaner, and I'm doing to prob install air ride.
