Thread: '70 Volksrod

  1. #1

    Default '70 Volksrod

Actions speak louder than words, so I'm going to keep the talking to a minimum.

    Here are the quick details:

    '70 beetle body
    -body sectioned 4"
    -roof chopped 9.5"
    -'68 rag top section added
-cut down stock seats, welded into fixed back

    '68 beetle chasis
    - ball joint front end bulkhead welded on
    -9" beam extension w/ 2.5" drop
    -2.5" drop spindles
    -turned and welded beams
-7.5" rear end/tunnel raise (suspension and motor)
-rear torsions turned 2 outer splines
-temporary type 2 motor (i love freebies)

I started this project 3 years ago to push myself and my abilities so I could learn quicker and harder. It worked. The quality of my work has improved probably 10 fold in the course of this project. Anyways, here are some shitty pictures from instagram of the build:

Nice, reminds me of a guy that builds these local to me.

Here are a few shots of his, he built this one from scratch in 73 days, pretty crazy.

I've seen some pictures of that thing before, I really wish I had to room for all the equipment and supplies to build a chassis like he did. It would have saved me so much time I feel like.

This volksrod by Kustom Coach Werks is what really drove me to start this build, theirs is only about 33-35" tall (iirc) and uses an earlier body style and a few other minor differences, mine is a sky scraping 39", just for reference.

DO IT!!! Its just like 300 hours of cutting and welding and about 100lbs of welding wire and 200 cut off wheels. Not really that big of a deal. Haha.
