Thread: The I suck at keeping cars stock build thread

  1. #1

Default The StanceWorks Time Attack M3.

After taking my dd e36 M3 to the track last month I decided my beater DD needed some love. After a few modifications and track days I decided to build a Redline Time Attack Enthusiast Class RWD car.

    Current list of modifications:

    Brakes:
WP Pro Front Big Brake Kit
WP Pro Rear Big Brake Kit
WP Pro Stainless Steel Brake Lines
    WP Pro Racing Brake Pads

    Drivetrain:
    KW Clubsport Double Adjustable Coilovers
    VAC Motorsports rear control arms
    B&M Short shift Kit

    Engine:
    VAC Motorsports fuel starvation kit
High performance engine built by Avus Autosport
    Ported and polished cylinder head
    Koyorad radiator
    AFE Cold Air Intake
    Porsche AFM
    ASC throttle body delete
    M50 Manifold
    24# injectors
    Stage 2 Cams
    shorty headers
    Y-Pipe
    3" Exhaust

    Wheels & Tires:
    Forgeline RS 17x9.5
Motorsport Hardware bullet nose race stud kit
    Motorsport Hardware neochrome lug nuts
    Motorsport Hardware 20mm Spacers
    Achilles 123S 255/35/17

    Interior & Exterior/Aero:
    Marvelous Tune front splitter
    Marvelous Tune GT Wing
Chrome livery supplied by Dream Room images.
    Bride Brix 2
This is how she looked when I bought her

It stayed stock for about 8 months while I focused on the 911. Now I have some time and want to make my DD a little more respectable.

Naturally I started with some lows. I'll probably end up using this car in Redline Time Attack so I needed some well functioning coils. After looking at all the options TC Kline made the most sense. I was at the track last Saturday with it (4/20) and won my class in the BMW competition

The following day I installed the coils.

I cut up the interior panels while I was at it to allow for quick changes at the track.

This is them at full low and with fender to hub heights close to ideal

Then I treated myself to some kbbq,

Monday passed and then Tuesday came and I needed to mount some tires on my wheels.
Here are both of my girls on the way to the tire shop

I got some sticky track rubber mounted on these.

They're one of my favorite e36 wheels and turns out they were owned by a fellow Grip Whisperer Geoff.

Yesterday I replaced the headlights with some new Hellas.

I'm going to go pick up more parts tonight, and I'm hoping to have the first part of the build done before I go to Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in two weeks for round 3 of Redline Time Attack.

Awesome! Can't wait to see what you do with it considering how awesome the 911 is! The first few mods are extremely solid and I always liked those wheels on Geoff T's car.

My inner ricer really wants to put aero on it. But for enthusiast class of redline the most I can run is an LTW high rise, and NASA rules I can't run it. I may rice out and put one on for regular track days though haha.

My Lux seats were hammered, so I picked up some Brix 2's last night. (don't worry, they're legit lol)

I ordered brackets this morning and hope to have the seats mounted next week.

I like the look of the countours too. Not bad for stock wheels.

The guys had to run by the machine shop, and DTM Fiberwerkz is a block away so I had them pick this up.

Like all fiberglass parts it needed a little work.

After that I hit it with a couple coats of primer

I painted the lip black and mounted it last night. I'm pretty happy with how and I should have the wheels mounted tomorrow. I'll post pics once everything is how it should be tomorrow.

Congrats on the new ride, love everything you're doing. You should sell me your rear DS2's, should you ever want to get rid of them.

Things have been a little crazy since I was trying to get the car ready for the Round 3 of Redline Time Attack to give the car a shake down.

I replaced the tie rods Friday night and had an alignment done. The alignment had way too much toe which caused me to end up doing it myself.

After that I had to head back to my fender guy since the rears were rubbing really bad. After a few hours we had it almost taken care of, but it still rubbed a bit.

I left his place a little after midnight still rubbing and headed out to Indio in preparation for a weekend at the track. After ten minutes of driving I hit something in the right lane of the freeway that ripped my bumper off. Fortunately I was able to continue sans bumper.

The rest of the weekend turned around since a friend of mine with a body shop was able to get rid of the rubbing with a slide hammer and a littler force. The 1/4 panel still looked awesome and gave me enough clearance to drive. The car handled really well despite being on Federal RSR's and having a ton of understeer from the bad alignment. I was able to walk away with a third place finish in the Redline Enthusiast RWD.

Fast forward a few days, and I had a pretty bad vibration after the weekend at Chuckwalla. I knew I had a couple of offs that bent wheels and was ready for the worst. I headed down to Performance Wheel Repair in Walnut and found out that all 4 of my wheels were bent. I suspect a couple were bent when I bought them, but figured I might as well repair all of them while I was there.

With the wheels fixed I went back to focusing on fun stuff. I spent yesterday and today redrilling and getting the Corbeau seat brackets and sliders to work with the Brides.

With a little work I was able to get them mounted.

Tomorrow I have to modify the slider handle to work since I widened them about 5"

While I was working on the seats UPS dropped off some Ferrodo Club Race Pads and Stop Tech lines. For my next project.

Same here. Geoff and I have been friends for a while, and I loved those wheels when they were on his car. Now they're my wheels so I'm happy haha.

Got up early today and went to town on the car. Picked up the bumper, did the final fitting on the seats, and mounted them in.

Seats are looking good, but I need to modify the driver's bracket a little more since the seat is about an inch too far to the left. Over all I'm very happy with the new mods and it'll be nice to get rid of my thrashed seats and to get a bumper back on my car.
