I actually took two pieces of planks, one shorter than the other and nailed them making a mini ramp. I always keep it in the back just in case.

Even with my race jack, I still have to drive up on some wood planks, mini ramp style. I've found that 4 4x.5 pieces, each about 1.5" long works great, and they live in my trunk, lol. That extra inch lets me get up enough to get the race jack underneath it. For putting the car on the lift at the shop, I just use more wood. When a low low profile jack isn't around, I'll drive up on the wood, and have someone else pull like hell on the fender, and that usually gives me enough room.

I keep 2x4's in the trunk for any emergency. Imagine getting a flat tire with nothing there.. you'd be screwed.
