That was the CV axle deciding it no longer wanted to be attached to the transmission.

Yeah, thankfully it's not that bad a job, and it was already planned for this spring. Part's already on order, should arrive next week, just in time for my spring break. Should be back on the road soon!

haha thanks very much. far from clean, but it's slowly getting how I want it.

The aero is sick no doubt, but that Benz is dying for air!

Perhaps someday. For starters it'll just get cut springs and minor restoration. I feel like both my cars shouldn't be on air, that's just asking for problems

If and when the Saab is gone, we'll see what happens.

                    • More broken stuff:

First thing i found when I jacked up the car was bits of the tripod bearing spread everywhere amongst the massive amount of grease:

Additionally, the inner end of the axle was pinned against the transmission and took a solid hour and a half with a pry bar to get everything to come free.

Aaand, this would be the bearing-less tripod, as well as the inner driver cup it decided to mangle on its way out.

So I will not be simply swapping axle, now I have to swap the inner driver as well. Which is quite expensive and I understand involves removing the diff housing to release the circlip that holds it in.

                        • Min Saab är bruten

Long story: inner cv joint exploded, also destroying the carrier flange that goes into the diff. In trying to remove said flange, one of the bolts stripped too badly for me to be able to do anything more. After 3 days in a cold, wet, and snowy parking lot, I'm done with it. Off to Snowfire where a buddy of mine swears he's up to the task.

                          • Oh wow, haven't updated this one yet, huh? Well, the car now looks like this:

Found a whole bunch of structural rust. Basically, the back half of the car was one pothole away from complete destruction.

                            So I bought this:

and started swapping parts off the old one so Project Death Star can live on. Extra parts from the cars are getting sold on various forums before the shell is scrapped.

On another note, finally got tires mounted on my summer wheels:

215/40 16x10" Yokohama S-drives. Just need to measure for adapters and those will be on the way soon!

You've made me a believer in SAAB.
