Thread: 1962 Chevy Corvair - Project Older Balls

Default 1962 Chevy Corvair - Project Older Balls

Picked up a new car a couple days ago. I've always loved the uniqueness and styling of the early 60's Corvairs but havent been able to find one in "project" condition for the right price. Some of you might remember my 65' Volvo that was featured on SW a couple months ago. I have since sold that car and now it's time for a new project.

I loved the Volvo and had a great time with it but for this Corvair I will be going in a different direction. So to all of you who ***** the rear poke on the Volvo don't worry. No poke in the future here. Just lots and lots of tuck.

Can't wait to see how this turns out.

My uncle had one of those back in the day when he was in college. Some of the stories he's told me involving that car are absolutely ridiculous.

Clean Corvair, I had a 67 4speed Corvair 12 years ago. I was in the process of converting to disc brakes front and rear, but had to sell it due to some legal troubles I was in at the time. I really miss that car and have been looking for another since.

Good luck on your project, looking forward to see the outcome

I went ahead and pulled out the interior today to fix a leak and dry everything out. Despite the leak there is only some minor surface rust. Tomorrow I'll go ahead and grind off the surface rust and repaint it.

OH SHIT SON. Shit just got real. I recently picked up a 68 corvair for this same reason. I like the 62 though as it looks more classic as opposed to my 68 which has a more MUSCLE feel to it. Im gonna stance my corvair, so i cant wait to see the way yours turns out. Rear enigine= awesome Since you dont have to worry so much about cracking oil pans and shit.

Progress update on the Corvair. After stripping the interior I wen through and ground all the surface rust off and repainted the floor boards.

I then worked on some body work. There were a couple spots that needed some bondo.

Dyed the carpet black before putting everything back together.

I LOVE SINGLE STAGE PAINT. All it takes is some buffing and its good as new!

The corvair has a single axel swing arm. You can see how much it positive cambers when jacked up. That can give you an idea how much negative camber these things have when lowered. VW Bug status.
