  • PNW Food Drive Cruise...

Saw this on e46, who got it off e90 sounds like fun so I'm goin, anyone else interested?

Where: Cruise to Point Defiance Zoo from Alki

    When: November 14, 2009 at 10:00am

Why: To enjoy a cruise with fellow European car enthusiasts and to support Northwest Harvest.

    Who: All European car enthusiasts
If you’ve never made this drive before, it is extremely fun and scenic. The drive mixes beautiful water views with some twisties through wooded area. There is a lot of varied PNW terrain to enjoy. Chances are that this will be the last formally organized cruise of the year, so let's all come out and enjoy it while supporting a great local charity.

    Where to meet:
    Alki Boat Launch
    1702 Alki Ave SW
    Seattle, WA 98116

    Map:

**Please make sure you have a full tank of gas and that you have used the restroom when you arrive at the boat launch, the group will not be making any stops until we get to Point Defiance Zoo!**

    When:
We will be meeting at 10am at the boat launch and will be leaving promptly at 10:30am. This will give people some time to hang out, chit chat, ogle other people’s cars, donate food and hit the road.
    Donations:
Every vehicle should donate four cans of food at a MINIMUM. Remember this drive is for charity and there are people who are less fortunate than us that could really use our support.
    Participating local shops:
We have partnered with local shops in the area to house the Northwest Harvest donation boxes. These boxes will be placed at Achtun!ng, Fine Tuning, and ECT Autohaus. Even if you don't go on the cruise, we would encourage people to donate food at these locations, help improve the community! These boxes will remain at these shops throughout November so we would encourage everyone to donate as much as they can, whenever then can. It wouldn't hurt to spend a little money at these local shops either.
Alternatively, we will also be collecting donations for Northwest Harvest at the cruise if you don't have a chance to donate at any of the final local shops mentioned above.
Northwest Harvest is a local non-profit organization that collects food and provides it for free to local food banks and meal programs throughout the state.

You can find out more about the organization here:
Northwest Harvest is Washington State’s leading hunger relief agency. We distribute food to our partner programs across the state and advocate for food justice.

    Suggested donation items:
    General food items:
    Oatmeal
    Whole grain pastas
    Brown rice
    Tomato products
    Canned peas
Canned pears and peaches, especially with low sugar (but not artificial sweeteners)
    Canned tuna
    Canned chicken and turkey
    Shelf-stable milk
Beef stew, chili and similar meals with low sugar and saturated fats
    Infant and baby foods:
    Baby formula
    Canned milk
    Infant cereal
    Jars of baby food
    Powdered or canned milk
    We also accept baby diapers
Route from Alki to Point Defiance, leaving at 10:30am:

There are no planned group stops along the way
12:30 - 1:00pm Arrive at Point Defiance Zoo
Once we arrive at Point Defiance Zoo we will have the opportunity to take pictures, hang out, and enjoy the awesome PNW European car enthusiast community! At this point in the day, people can hang out as long as they want, groups of people can grab food around the local area or visit the zoo.

The route that we currently have planned is 47 miles each way from Alki to Point Defiance Zoo.
Now that all of the fun informational stuff has been addressed, the serious stuff needs to be discussed.

    **SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY!!!**

This is without a doubt our #1 concern.
We all will be driving as a group, and as a group, we all represent the European car enthusiast community. No one is to do any burn-outs, illegal lane changes, or passing on the shoulder. Everyone needs to keep their speed under control and make sure that they are not following cars in front of them too closely, whether they are with our group or not. SAFETY is paramount; do not drive like an idiot!
Please make sure that you are allowing other vehicles that are not part of our cruise to merge onto the highway. You don’t need to worry about being separated from the rest of the group. It is extremely unsafe to do this and we are not in a race to get to our destination, it’s called a cruise for a reason. Drive respectfully, safely, and courteously to everyone around you.

It was a pretty good turn out... at Alki, after that it all fell apart, probably the most Unorganized event I have ever participated in, very dissapointed.

It was good to meet E46grocerygetta with his sick E46 sedan, JZM3 was there with his girl and his E30 M3, as well as Kamberkid riding with Jason in his MK2 who should be joing us at StanceWorks very soon, it was a good effort to somthing good for our PNW community. I'll post a thread with pics later.
