So some more things to show you guys .

First I ordered a 12v plug for the lighter plug, I think it is from an Audi A8.

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

    Looks very clean I think

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Then, I had an idea. Why not replace the door blades of the latest A4 with the ones of the other car that were painted and scratch free. Given the chance, I could also clean underneath them, where I was sure I would find some lovely grime, given what i had found during the sideskirt replacement.

Speaking of the old A4, here is the interior status currently, lol

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Oh well, so, got to work.

    Driver door before

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

    Used this combo for cleaning

    Cleaned

    Previous blade

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Super dirty on the inside too

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Whereas the other ones are super clean on the inside

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

    And also no scratches

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

    Rear passenger side door

    Cleaned

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

    Fresh blade

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Used loctite on all the mounting bolts of the blades because I have seen that due to door closing and vibration, bolts tend to go loose over time. Not days or weeks, but months or years. So a little blue loctite prevents that

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

When I find some time, i want to replace some tired window/door seals from one car to another

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

On another note, rear OEM RS4 B7 fender liners and trim arrived from the dealership

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Will currently keep them in store, because I havent converted yet the RS4 rear fenders.

Gave a quick clean on the alcantara of the steering wheels of the Audi and the Golf

    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

    Stay tuned, more to come

    Teaser pic. Any guesses

    Cheers

Another thing on the list, was to add MP3 playing on the car's capabilities. The soundsystem, although old, is very capable, and at least to my ears, very satisfying. So the options were to go for the RNS-e or add a module that will allow me to play mp3 in the current unit I have.

The option of the RNS-e is not bad I had already sourced a good unit, scratch free, however it is not so good in terms of maps / navi etc, it is old, that is why, and also, in order to gain the 2nd din space, I need to move the AC unit further lower. However I cannot do that cause I have the custom gauge pod there, where I want to host two new gauges instead of the Defi ones I ran there in the past. Those will probably be a boost controller, and also, a multiple reading gauge from the OBD. All in time though. What I currently decided is that I wanted to keep my single din unit.

So searching for something that would work, shops in my country found little info, most probably because they didnt want to invest time in it. It is not the most profitable thing I guess. So I came across this video on youtube while searching

It was on an A3 8P, however unit is the same, so decided to order it. Couldnt go wrong for its cost.

        Received this from Germany

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

        It had these things inside

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

        One end of the adaptor

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

        And the other

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

The unit which is pretty good quality

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Card and USB and jack(ipod/ipad) side

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

BT, and main power connection sockets

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Headunit removal tools, which i wanted either way, the main cable with the ground, and also jack adapter, basically everything you needed

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Oh and this, which also came handy, I will show you later why

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Before doing anything, tape the console, you will thank me later

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Also add some cloth to the gear knob, cause this is where you will be resting the unit while doing and testing things

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Adapter installed in place on one side

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

In order to connect the ground , which is the last thing i did, you need a T8 torx bit, I used this kit

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Worked perfrctly just like in the video I showed before. Veru helpful video overall, except for one part. We are getting there.

So time to test the card which was basically what I will be using

I kept getting this reading and the unit did not play music

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

I thought, ok we lost some money no biggy. However, I tried further. Still nothing. Reduced the songs and files, thought maybe that was the problem.

Then before giving up, I thought I would RTFM. That is Read The F*cking Manual for those who are new to this term.

It clearly says that in order for the unit to read the files, like they would be a CD on the CD changer (6 CDs in there to be exact, so 6 files is the maximum files you can have), you have to name them CD01, CD02, etc. up to CD06.

        So i tried that.

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Boom, it worked. I was very happy with that. It could play as many songs as you liked in there, as long as the files were like that to begin with.

Yes, you cant see the titles, however you now have MP3, in the OEM unit, and with perfect quality. Also ,the usb works. The other modes I didnt even bother if I am honest.

So with all of it working it was time to put it all together and pass the module unit to the glove box compartment and make it neat. That was the easy and non stressful part.

        Passing the wiring through

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Used an existing hole which I slightly opened a bit more

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

        Passing through

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Connection was made , now to mount this

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

I wanted somewhere within reach from driver side, and not taking space from the capacity of the glovebox, so . . .

        Heavy duty velcro

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

        Mounted

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Looks great, but can you see a problem as I am ?

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

There is a hole visible from where the wire come through which I dont like. Lets see if i have something in the garage that can fix that

Boom, clips from the heat and sound insulation of the hood of the car

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

        Used two of them

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

        Much better now

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

        Easy within reach

        Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

And it shows on the screen as it should

Some things got done after I came back from summer holidays .

Not in the correct order, but here goes

                  1. Decided to clean the HVAC system of all the cars, so got some supplies from WURTH. I love this company their products do what they say they do.

First, AC Cleaning stuff for killing bacteria, disinfecting, etc. You spray with the nozzles inside the vents pretty much.

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Then, you turn these cabin bombs on, while car is on Air Recycle, and leave it with closed windows. Preferably with noone sitting inside the car at that point as well.

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Yes I know there are 4 bottles for 3 cars, I used a double penetration for the latest A4, because not only my own DNA is (hopefully no more) inside it.

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  2. Got me some garage stuff

--Some sitting and working seats for the garage because the old ones were damaged or tired. These ones from IKEA work perfectly are very comfortable, and affordable.

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Also great to work while sitting on them and cleaning the wheels.

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

--While I was at IKEA, also spotted some nice dispenser, for QDs, etc

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

not bad and with measuring scale at the side.

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

--Some more Koch stuff which i highly recommend for interior cleaning . They are awesome. Plus a new tyre dressing to test on the left, which seems to work nicely.

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  Finish of the shine foam

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  3. Licence plate frames from Audi

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Part number is this in case anyone wants to buy them as well

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Side by side with the one I got in my A1

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  Time to install it

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Came out subtle and clean, I like it

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  4. Interior and Headlight Canbus (supposedly) white LED lamps

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

These ones are for the DRLs

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  And these are canbus ones

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  They work and look great

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

However they dont do the trick for the check light for lamps

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

This car is very very stubborn in this area. Sadly I will have to install canbus at some point which I **** tbh. Too bored to at the moment.

                  5. RS4 Pedals Installation [PLEASE IF ANYONE HAS A FOOTREST LET ME KNOW PLEASE ]

                  Before

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  Brake on

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Bit of a PITA to install them when new, but got there with some nice words

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  6. Damaged Door rubber seals

                  Driver door had this

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Removed the rubber, however these stay behind. At least they did in me.

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

WHAT A PITA to remove these. I was feeling sad for myself while doing it. THEY ARE SO MANY

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

New rubber seal to go in

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  Good

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  No damage now

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

The only other door that has the same damage, is the rear passenger one.

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

However because I will end up changing rear doors (because RS4 swap) i decided to not change this rubber seal at least for now. It is kinda pointless. We shall see.

                  Took some shots.

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                  Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Then I got another exciting, for me at least, thing that I had ordered from Germany. Something which is custom, and come in CF, cannot be anything but exciting I guess.

                    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                    Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

This is destined for the front grille, unlike the cheap chinese Quattro badges, this is harder to install because it is not flexible, however it looks like a whole different level when done so properly. I have seen it in my buddy's TT and it is amazing.

Wanted to give it some depth, so WetSanded it down with this

Currently waiting for some parts to arrive to start installation process

                    Like this special glue

While waiting got the bumper off to be able to work properly

Made a template which will come handy when installing on the Grille

And a short video of the finish I achieved.

So, in this post I will try to document the procedure of the CF Quattro Grille badge and what it needed to be mounted properly.
Because if you recall, it had no mounting points and was just cnc cut cf piece.

But first, do you remember the caps on the wheels i swapped from the A4 to the Golf ?

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                      Received these

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

And the wheel configuration turned into this

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                      Now onto the Grille project

Last parts necessary for the project arrived and everything was set

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Masked everything around and mounted the paper logo i made

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Then I used the chalk spray to paint and create a shadow where I would make the recess / case for the badge to sit in.

Because the badge is not flexible and the grille is curved there needs to be quite some work for it to sit initially and then a very strong specific glue to make it sit in place.

                      Sprayed

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

After having done this, I have to say the chalk spray didnt work well. Neither did it make a really clear line where I would have to use the dremmel, nor did the chalk spray remove with water afterwards as easy as it should have. Probably because it was raw plastic and not something clear coated i guess and the paint bonded somewhat in there. In the end i got it out, but also some words through my mouth. Oh well

                      Out came these

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Slowly, literally slowly, took material out

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                      Testing, marking and then again

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

When i was happy with how deep the recess was, I noticed that the finish was a bit different, naturally where it had been sanded

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

So, I gave it a thin coat of satin black, in the lower part to blend it in. I was stress this might cause the glue to not work as it should, but couldnt accept it looking it like that even though I would possibly be the only one having noticed it.

                      After the light coat.

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

                      Ready for glue

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

And plenty of zip ties to keep it there while curing

                      Untitled by mgpdoc, on Flickr

Left it like that for 72h although it was an overkill. But I didnt need the car, so why not.

The glue literally becomes like a thick plastic. Science b*tch I guess.

                      Ugly like i guessed it

Time to see how it looks on the car

                                Received some new orders.

                                1. Some custom plugs for the oil sump which allow for the installation of the temp sensor. I have these made custom in the past, but there was a leak in one of them in the Audi A1 after many years, so thought I'd give these a go.

Bought three of them just to put one in each of the running projects I guess.

They seem like good quality. We shall see

Bought some new clips for the rubber seals at the doors.

Never thought clips could cost that much tbh, but oh well.

Then I received a thing i scored over at ebay, for a cost of less than 10euros

Okay there was some shipping which made this cost almost 20euros, but still it was a nice buy. And when it arrived it looked like new and wanted just a clean nothing more

Why did i buy that u ask.

The only difference they have is this for the tray to light up with interior lights

                                I swapped parts then
