  • Do I need to re-weld my 3 piece wheels? Really concerned. (Deadline)

    Hi guys,

I need to decide today (because of a deadline) what to do.

I have 3 piece wheels which are welded together originally and I needed another lip so I brought them to a specialist. He cutted away the welding and just gave me a call.

He thinks its really dangerous to just glue them back together. He thinks that they need to be welded back together to get it safe. The part where the barrels meet is only a few mm thick.

I really hope you can give me some advice on this.

Just called the seller of my wheels on this and he claims that Work, SSR etc also sells wheels without welding and only with glue. The main question. Is it exact the same or is the point where the weld should be reinforced?

I would glue it. Welding always also creates inner stresses in the material and since it's that thin but also dynamically loaded, these stresses are in my opinion a bigger risk than just glueing it.
Tut DAS denn Not, dass der Karren so tief is?

it would not be safe to only glue if there are not bolts around the perimeter of the face and inner and outer. if they are true 3 price they would have bolts around the wheel other wise you will need to do a full conversion to three piece inner and outer like a BBS rs ii conversion or BBS LM wheels.

Here are the actual rims. There are 40 bolts inside them. The layer where the barrel and the wheel meet is very thin. I am thinking of letting them fill up the gap seperately and then take off the acces welding to make it smooth again so I can mount the wheels back together again with more safe contact surface...
