  • Audi A6 Avant Landbarge project

    Hey guys!

Been a while since I've browsed the Stanceworks forum, so thought I would post up a new build thread.

Some of my previous cars are here -

My latest project is a 2006 Audi A6 Avant. It is the 2.0 tdi with a 7 speed auto box. On the most part the car was pretty solid when i bought it. There was a very bad vibration when accelerating which scared me, as it could be the gearbox causing the fault.. and that would be a 1k+ fix. In the end it turned out to be a driveshaft, so a nice easy fix!

First thing to do was get the car low, and in this case, I used the bags off my old Audi A4 B7. They were extended and fitted -

The problem with the A4 B6/B7 and A6 C6 chassis is that the upper wishbones catch on the chassis and dont allow the front to sit low enough. 10mm can be saved by cutting off a rubber nipple that sits on top of the wishbones.
To be a bit more extreme, you will need to get the grinder out and cut away at panel directly above the wishbones. So this is what I did.
The front bumpers do scoop upwards so that doesn't help the matter either. To rectify this I bought a Maxton Design splitter.

Next came some wheel test fits. I love big monoblock style wheels, but really would prefer tucking as i didn't want to destroy my arches.
    Rotiform WRWs.

I decided to buy some Rotiform BLQs are a temporary wheel, and liked them quite a bit in the end! 19" x 9.5" square setup.

The next set was to hide my boot build away. I ***** the thought of damaging the tank, and the noise from the compressors. Easiest solution was to drop everything in the wheel well.

A bit of wiring to tidy!

    20180520_162527569_i_OS

I'm afraid I currently dont have any completed pictures of this, but its not a show piece anyway.

After a month or so, I grew bored of the BLQs and found some INDs for sale quite cheap. The colour wasn't to my taste, but they were cheap, and felt in my head that they suited the car.. Looking back, I dont think they did!

    20180629_205604640_i_OS

Maybe it was just the colour letting them down? so off to the powder coaters!

Managed to find some genuine alloy Rotiform centre caps for a steal! £30 posted. had to buy them.

    20180711_150336829_i_OS

Next up came the interior and a bit of arch work. I wanted the console to be Daytona grey, to match the rest of the car.

    20180711_160500462_i_OS

The rear arches also needed attention, so I have them rolled and repaired too.
They pulled out a huge dent on the right hand side, and some other minor repairs.

I took delivery of a new facelift grill, and decided to split my headlights and add some amber corners, and also wrap the indicator lens with amber vinyl.

Pain to take apart, but worth it i believe.

    20180726_153835324_i_OS

New grill doesn't come across too well in pictures, but I believe its a huge improvement visually

Then wheel day.. again. TMBs this time. 19 x 10" square. Powdercoated chrome. Always been my favourite set of wheels from Rotiform. Simple and effective.

    20180801_131636686_i_OS

I decided to browse ebay, and came across a set of 2012 Audi A8 seats. Full electric, heated etc. £150 bid placed.. and i won them. The front seats are a direct fit, bolt them in, change a couple of connectors, and wire them up! Quite simple really.

    20180810_165613718_i_OS

The rears took a lot of work. Firstly, i'm going from a car with split fold seats, to 3 seperate seats, which are fix backed.
I had to remove all the rear plastics, any bracket associated with the original seats and start with a blank canvas.

In the end, i removed a lot of foam, metal and reshaped most of the seats to fit. I welded bolts to the chassis to support the seats. This allowed them to still be removed easily.
I mounted a metal bar across the top of the seats to support them upper part. Everything I have done is removable though. Very happy with the results.

I have added a custom steering wheel with paddle shifts

And the final product so far...

Plenty more work to do, including a new boot build, and hopefully a one off front bumper which i'll be creating myself.

I know it looks like the usual bags and Rotiform build, but there are a lot of smaller details which I've maybe neglected to say.
I have done a bit of custom work on this car -
    - Fabricating rear spacers for the bags
    - A8 interior
    - A8 light bars retrofitted to the A6 doors
    - A8 led lights retrofitted to the door pockets
    - custom headlights

I will definitely be adding to the above list.
Next on the list is to complete the boot build, and move on to a custom front bumper, which will incorporate either RS4 or RS6 grilles.

This thing is daily goals. Love how it sits aired out, and all the little things you did in the interior. The console looks way better than I thought it would

I'm really liking the console! Also never seen seats from a D4 A8 swapped into a C6 A6, that's sweet!
