What's with the car "community" nowadays?

Unfortunately this particular scene is filled with a lot of the younger generation, many of which have not been brought up around cars and appreciate the blood, sweat, and tears that go into a lot of these things.. were not talking a set of bags and a set of wheels here..

As a result, it seems to be quite common that people steal parts off other people, vandalize cars, etc.. Its really a tragedy, but its a combination of alcohol, people who haven't grown up, and people being brought up without certain value attributed to the time an money that goes into a real build that can be respected.

Yup.

No one cares. Even the local car shows and gatherings are ruined by the inconsiderate pricks who egg on their friends to do burnous, rev their engines, and blast their obnoxious sound systems for the "look at me" points. Respect is replaced by drunken high-fives and circle jerking on social media pages minutes later, and respect for the law is replaced by the "yolo" mindset that brainwashes people into thinking 'they're not doing anything wrong'.

Lead by example. Come and go as quietly as a church mouse. If you see someone being an idiot, show your disapproval and move on. It sucks, but causing fights and throwing out names doesn't solve anything.

Came in to say this. I think this kind of behavior is unavoidable, so ultimately I'd encourage others to ignore it when observed and keep on fighting that primal urge to derp out.

I dont do car meets...dont really do carshows anymore either. Im pretty sure i'll do some more one day, but the attitudes suck... Im actually enjoying my cars more now.

Id feel bad for the person(s) that would even think of throwing beer on one of my cars.

Having been a veteran of the h2oi yearly weekend, the overall scene has changed quite a bit over the years.. won't even drive any of the builds out to the event because of the paranoia. This might change this year, as we are prepping 3 cars in hopes to have them cruising the strip for that week.

Just got back from muscle car weekend in ocean city and car bashing against imports was at an all time high (to be expected) but usually people will just drive away and thats the end of it.

I remember this kind of shit behavior from 2000–2001, and I guarandamntee you it's been going on as long as people have been congregating in groups. Cockmonglers in 240s doing burnouts, peoples' cars getting keyed, minitruck guys dragging frame and throwing sparks all over peoples' rides, fistfights... it wasn't often it happened, but it happened often enough.

I stopped going to car shows because of this and most of the "car guys" that i know at the moment stay away from car shows/meets.

Don't forget about the guns! Car meets have seriously calmed down in the last 10 years, I remember when people would get shot over not paying up after a race, or when they had a disagreement.

Is it just an east coast thing, recently I've never seen any real **** between car meet attendees or racers.

I've seen people get shot at meets here in Orlando. It's always the ricers that ruin it.

^ I generally tried to avoid the street races, so I never saw anyone get shot, but I did see more than one piece get pulled over some dumb shit. After the team I was associated with disbanded, I bailed from the "scene" in '05 or so, and I haven't done a show or a meet since, and frankly, I don't miss it much.

Probably gonna do the Leavenworth drive in a month here, and I'll bet $100 it's the same band of 95% great people and 5% dipshits that it always has been.
