i distance myself from people who ask stupid things like that.

and if people do ask me i just tell them they dont understand, and im not gonna waste my time trying to explain it,

I guess it sums it pretty well.
that was me when i was that age, my dad had just bought an e39 m5 a week after my 10th bday. I thought that car was the fastest thing in the world, and i 120% trace my car obsession back to that car.

Most people I hang around are car people.

It just seems they have a hard idea understanding why I like lowered cars. I tell em, "most people have a type of car modifications they like, mine just happens to be lowering cars a lot" and that pretty much gets the point across to them.

I someone asks me i just say it was either the cars or making bombs, so i picked the cars...

You can replace "making bombs" with just anything messed up and they will drop the subject

I will say as a general stereotype, that people who have that level of understanding in regards to cars, usually are the owners of the most poorly maintained vehicles, that stay dirty/mechanically hurt, etc. I grew up with a family up the street from me, that literally believed in the theory "drive until the wheels fall off", and in turn, they would have to buy a different car every couple of years.

On the other hand, my father (not by any means an involved car enthusiast) who maintained his vehicles, and at the very least had the understanding that the "tool" he was using was at the foundation of his livelihood, and had more of a purpose than just to be driven. He owned the same Mazda b2000 pickup from 1989 until 2004, and it ran tip top, all the time, but became plagued by rust. He passed that same knowledge on to me, which really made me not half ass things, even though I tried hard haha.

In the end, if they dont understand cars now, they will never understand it, in any stretch of the imagination in the context that we "understand cars".

It's pretty simple to me. I tell people that it's inherent and that I was born with it. I don't see cars as materialistic objects but rather a part of me.

If someone needs me to explain it to them, they wouldnt understand it anyway, so I don't.

most of my friends are either car guys or rednecks, so they both get a kick out of my cars (ford falcon and Mercedes with a CB). When people do bitch about cars though I usually just compare like what their hobbies are. Mostly going out to clubs wasting all their money trying to get women. So I just call them tools I guess. Most guys like cars though. Although I did have a bunch of girls saying how stupid video games were in class and I compared it to their purses, and how video games are cheaper and give us way more time of satisfaction. So all the guys were like yea, and I stood up and bowed.

People love cars because they give them the freedom they treasure.
