I did actually, that is just my own definition of it. Otherwise, I and all of my friends, are alcoholics. Which just isn't true. (If you look at alcoholism from the way most people do).
Denial isn't just a river in Egypt
I used to think the same thing, but if you are in college, and not an alcoholic by the technical definition, you are doing it wrong. You, and most every other college student, are an alcoholic, but it isn't as bad a thing as your preconception of the label makes you think it is.
Did you know, if you binge drink (aka once a week, but to the point of inebriation) you are technically an alcoholic?
I drink very rarely. I have had a case of Coors in my cabinet for over two months and haven't touched it. I will drink at a bar, so I don't seem like that weird guy in the room that isn't enjoying himself, but I rarely go to bars/clubs. I enjoy a good whisky drink when I do drink though. And, a nice beer with a meal can be an awesome accopinament to a lot of dishes.
I used to be a bartender, and thus, an alcoholic, so I have lost a lot of the taste for it. As a matter of fact, just talking about heavy drinking is giving me a little bit of a headache.

If you can just not drink when you have an urge, or even when you don't have an urge to drink. Then you're not an alcoholic.
