Lowering on custom springs & uprated dampers

Can't find much information anywhere for this but looking at a car and coilovers for it are over £850. Was thinking of getting some custom springs and uprating the dampers to something like Bilstein B4 gas damper as its over half as much to spend.

Now, I know that the common rule is not to lower your car on standard dampers by over 50mm, but would it be ok to lower it to around 70mm on uprated shocks? Maybe because they have increased damping, it wouldn't notice the drop as much as standard shocks and be ok. I know its not going to ride like coilovers but should ride ok in theory?
