finally got some work done on these wheels.

disassemble! they came apart real easy, no heat required (yay). looks like there was some epoxy/silicon used to seal em together, so that gets added to the reassembly parts list.

40 bolts per wheel = lots of wrenching, and broken knuckles

the centers will be powder coated gold. outer barrels get polished, inners get a good cleaning. yay.

    No need for that.

There is a special paint that rusts. AFAIK it's basically a clear coat with lots of metal particles which start to rust after a time.

This here was apparently painted with that stuff:

Awesome wheels, I'd love to find a set. Check out Nogaro Silver, its a darker silver, pretty classy.

well, after searching around, i found the "special tool" to remove the wheel bolts, which turned out to be a $3.50 8mm 12-pt socket from sears. got a little suspicious of the $40+ socket tools on a few of the custom wheel sites.

my buddy devon is getting his DS1 wheels powdercoated by a local shop. he is getting me quote on gold powdercoating the centers of the wheels. if his turn out lookin hot, ill be doing the same.

ive done some reading and it seems like the centers should come out without heat, but we will see. i am planning on this weekend for taking them apart.

in other news it looks like the pedal bracket on my e28 has cracked, making the clutch stick, so that may get in the way of this whole deal, we will see.

hence the "dunno if its possible" part. i figure paint or some sort of coating process could make it a reality.

after viewing yet another "WTF is up with this rust hood shit" post on another forum, i was inspired. dunno if its even possible/safe/etc. would probably be best to do with paint and not actual rust, lol.
