So I think based on both the polling numbers, and the various amounts of passionate opinions, it is evident that we aren't going to reach a resolve on this one.
Me personally.. having a entrepreneur background, I understand what it takes to build something from nothing especially when that something is original. There is ALOT that goes into making a wheel, both from creativity aspect as well as the science and safety of it. I can understand when wheel companies produce a wheel that is influenced by a popular design... however a direct copy, to be made with the cheapest materials to meet a price point that undercuts the entire market? I can't support that... This isn't about "how big your bank account is" or who has the most "baller set of wheels".. more comes down to honoring those who forged the road to create these popular designs with the standards that anyone would expect from a safety and quality standpoint.
At this point, I think everyone has had plenty of time to state their position. Let's all work towards encouraging one another to support the innovators that help build the market, that creates a bigger opportunity for other's to get involved. At the end of the day, if we continue to support Rep companies, we will end up cannibalizing the market leaving us with nothing... food for thought.

This thread really makes me question the unity of this forum. Isnt the car world supposed to be something that has an equal playing field? If all of you are really going to be that exclusive because someone doesn't have the means to or does not want to spend that much money on a set of "baller" wheels, then that is a really arrogant and shitty attitude to have.
Questions for all the "baller wheel whores" out there. How many of you have actually purchased NEW wheels from BBS, Volk, HRE, etc.?

Well put, you are a baller for painting your fm10's baby blue tho.Originally posted by riffman12 View PostI don't think "you gotta pay to play" is a very good argument for this. VERY few people on here bought their BBS / Volks / Works / SSRs etc. at MSRP from the manufacturer
If you buy a used set of (insert baller wheels here) off craigslist for a steal of my price, you are not supporting the wheel industry any more than if you bought a set of new Rotas
So as much as I'd like to say I supported legit wheel companies, I haven't. As much as I'd like to say I'm a baller because I have FM10's, I'm not.
That being said, it sure is nice telling people that I have legit wheels. I also feel safer on them after having a replica wheel split in half on me at 70mph
I wouldn't buy Rotas based on personal experience with rep wheels, but those of you who think you're an elite baller wheel whore because you bought a set of RS's for $250 or a set of TE37's from a wife parting out her cheating husband's car, are just fooling yourselves.
In my mind, if you can go and buy a brand new set of BBS in whatever size / offset then you, sir, are baller. The rest of you need to cut the elitist crap. It's just silly.

I`m not a fan of rotas. Here in Ireland everyone with an s13/14/15 has them on their car. I asked a fella why he was looking for rota gtr`s when there was a mint set of used LMGT4`s for sale in the FS section of a forum for around the same money as new rotas and he looked at me and asked what they were.
I found that a lot of people here didn`t even know that rotas designs weren`t original and some people even bragged about having them with stickers all over their cars.
I think that they`re dangerous and they have no safety rating which companies like WORK and RAYS have to spend thousands in development and testing to adhere t, only to have rota churning knock offs that have been proven to be unsafe when used on track.
I also think they take from the originals in the same way that piracy has affected the film/music industry.
My attitude is if I cant afford it, then I`ll save hard or do without. I wont buy anything replica. I guess you could call me an imit-*****, lol.

IMO, real wheels are easy to come by (used) for a few hundred more than a new set of rotas.
You mean if you wasted that much money on a civic.......... Fail.

Good for you sir, I'm glad you like your wheels Mr. Poon....
"Respect?!?" Lets discuss respect(like what you just showed to the whole Filipino community)...Originally posted by FreshLikeSushi View Postlet me put it more simple for you then
Knockoff wheels=lack of respect
Buying knockoff wheels is a lack of respect for the companies that do the real work. Then some shitty as Filipino company rolls in, that cant even get a safety certification in japan might i add, and sells a shitty as knockoff of the popular wheels because they cant design their own.
grow up, save up, and support the people that innovate. not some stupid ass knockoff company
Can you get me a REAL wheel rep from one of these companies to post in this thread please and show that they actually give a shit about/"respect" the average guy...I've been to Japan too! I have friends stationed in Japan! Those companies and ppl can give 2 shits about you and especially the US. Name one event Rays Engineering, Work, BBS, etc etc that was hosted STATESIDE giving back to the "community." I'll wait......
I'd bet my bottom dollar someone from CCW would be in here before you could get another ACTUAL company rep from one of those others. You know what, Michael Jordan probably doesn't give a shit about me either, I at least had the priviledge of meeting the man and shaking his hand at a camp he held. Their no fucking wheel gods of anybody, they build a better wheel, I respect that they make a better product and that's about it. I'm sorry I'm just very VERY picky with who I spend my money with, If I'm gonna spend 2k for some rims can I at least get a hold of a real rep to ACTUALLY talk to about my purchase??!!
I just spent $1500 on my sound system, you better believe EVERY time I called kicker, there was a rep there to speak w/me. When I called the retailer I got em from, there was a rep to speak with me! My next set of wheels are coming from CCW, take a wild guess why.
Get real, nice advertising but ppl rocking Rota aren't disrespecting anyone! And what deserves a chuckle is the guy who spends his last dollar on a wheel and can't get damn customer service or e-mailed back about getting a new one, THATS hilarious. They would probably laugh at you if you sent pics of your actual car in 9 times outta 10.
Dammit, why is this rocket science??! The real wheels ARE better than REPS, that's it!
Maaaaaan fug it...to each his own. The polls stated what was up, rock those Rotas wit pride Lizerd! lol dont be influenced by small minded people.
I LOVE WHEELS AND I LOVE THE "REAL" ONES MORE THAN THE BOOTLEGS!!

Still agree strongly with the rest of your statement though.
And, to all the people that don't think that fake wheels take away from the sale of real wheels... Um, yes they do. I actually have two friends that decided to pocket a grand by purchasing reps instead of shelling out for the real deal. They had the money, but their argument was that "oh well, they look the same, and these are a LOT cheaper."

Love the Rota RB's on my '76 2002.

They were inexpensive (about $650) , and there was group buy done to have the hub size and offset made for '02's. They're light weight, strong and made in Japan. I dig it.

my cheap ass car is rolling on nicer wheels than most people have, probably. theyre not uber cheap, and theyre really not that heavy for being the size they are.
and i bought my 240 stock for 300 dollars. however the car is worth more than the wheels. you dont know anything about my car. or wheels.
and HEY GRANT.Last edited by slideonKais; 02-07-2010, 05:57 PM.
