I definitely have you to thank for finding that guy (well, Smitty too). But yeah like 10 hours of total driving time went into getting those wheels to him.Originally posted by Dave_The_BMXER View PostI never actually investigated where that guy was located lol
Thanks! I would but they're retired at least until H2O. I just put my new wheels on an hour ago.Originally posted by animal View Postamazing - keep posting pics! steelies are timeless

I never actually investigated where that guy was located lolOriginally posted by Mystikal View PostThanks. Here's how these came about:
I bought a set of rusty steelies with winter tires from a friend's beater E46. Then i sold the winter tires for what I paid for the wheel/tire combo (free wheels!).
Then I had a welder with a fetish for steel wheels cut them apart and put 2.5" (front) and 4" (rear) inserts. He had done a few sets but mainly for Mopar/Jeep guys doing off-road builds. He had never seen a 17" steelie and had also never added 4" of lip before but he was willing to try. He himself is a VW guy and learned the process on his Caddy's steel wheels in the 90s, but again stance guys aren't exactly hunting down guys in rural Ontario 2 hours from Toronto with no website. I then took them to my powdercoater for media blasting and refinishing. A call to the BMW dealer had the OE centercaps and valve stem caps delivered.
I drove on these barn-built things all over Ontario and all the way down to H2Oi in MD. To be honest I never expected them to be functional, it was at first purely an aesthetic project but they turned out to be suitable for everything I could throw at them. I never did a multi-piece wheel build or anything like that so these were a truly fun stepping stone for me.
End of drawn out story. Hope someone benefits from reading it.

If i'm remembering correctly, he bought themOriginally posted by rab71 View PostLike...
The steel wheels really set if off and contradicts the luxery aspect of the car.
I may have missed it, but did you mod the wheels yourself, or have someone do it for you? I thought about doing something like that as well.

Random photo dump ahead.

Steelies are off the car now and will probably be put aside for a while. I hope I have as much fun making my next setup work as I did with these.

Well it will just have to keep trying, now won't it.Originally posted by motocaddy View Postnice specs and car, but not liking big heavy steel wheels with 205s on an s54 roadster. car needs something much nicer, imo. looks like it's trying to be a miata.
