Aiming for a wagon (E36,golf 4 or a Jetta) as a family car, and a E36/46 vert for commute/slammage?
Only problem is I'm a E39 addict....

If you want a wagon for storage capability, DON'T get an E36. The trunk is tiny for a wagon. There's a reason those are called lifestyle wagons... although they're the best looking wagons out there, but I might be a bit biased.

My suggestion:

Take off your fancy bits and make the E39 stock. Sell it. Buy a E39 wagon, put on all your fancy bits and get air suspension. Bam. Perfect daily baby hauler slammed wagon.
